ᐅ Do you have a tendency toward perfectionism when it comes to your home?

You, like me, have probably noticed in various threads that I didn’t plan and think through everything in detail. How about you? Did you have clear ideas and were you able to implement them 100%? If not, what percentage of the result matched your planning and wishes at the time you moved into your house? How much or what did you change or wish for differently later on?

(Just one example: tiles in the bathrooms and/or on the floor. Some of you calculate, based on the tile size, which was chosen deliberately, whether and where “cutting” can be avoided or arranged in an aesthetically pleasing way. As mentioned, just an example, this is not meant to be a tiling discussion.)

Could you or can you be found somewhere in the working world? It would fit if you had supported your husband at home in the traditional female role.
That was never an option for me. On the contrary, I have been continuously employed since I was 17 years old. ;-) However, we shouldn’t go further into this here, unless you come to our open house event, which I have already mentioned several times here. 🙂

So, with our house, we have reached 99.x%. We spent over 2 years on meticulous planning and then just over a year of construction, during which I was on site almost every day for several hours or the entire day. Due to the concrete construction with exposed concrete, careful planning is essential...

I’m personally usually a fan of the Pareto principle and that works well for me in life 🙂 However, there are things that are important to me, and for those, I make sure they are done as well as possible. This is also the case with our renovation. Important rooms (and the technical systems – though not handled by me) are planned carefully. Since we are investing a significant amount of money, I want the result to be the best it can be.

To be honest, I have sometimes wondered why you’re building a new house at all. If I remember correctly, you had a house before, didn’t you?

Best regards

What does perfect really mean? My best friend bought a truly fantastic existing house, which, however, is rather less than ideal for living with three children and working from home as a graphic designer. His home office is now the sauna in the garden shed... but he still plans to move into the pantry. For him, this is perfect – the five of them are enviably relaxed and extremely happy in their home.

We moved from Baden-Württemberg to Saxony at my request.

It was always clear to me that when I achieved financial freedom, I would move somewhere else. That it ended up being the Leipzig district is a fortunate coincidence—I could never have planned it to turn out this well. 🙂
