Good evening everyone,
We are once again puzzling over a topic and would like to get your opinion. Here’s the situation: Our staircase will be covered with tiles on both the tread and the riser. We need/want a tile edge profile for the corners. We are unsure which one to choose.
The options are:
Schlüter Jolly: This is the same profile we will use in the bathroom. It’s the most discreet solution. We could either choose a color matching the tile, but we are worried it might scratch (aluminum with textured coating), or go for classic stainless steel.

White metal bracket with rectangular opening in front of beige textured wall.

Special stair profile from Schlüter (TREP-E or similar, installed flush with the tile edge, not protruding):

Metal ramp profile with slip-resistant ribbed surface at a door threshold.

Cross-section of a stair profile installation Schlüter TREP-E with sealing and insulation

+ Steps are easier to see = reduced risk of tripping
+ Protection against slipping
- Does it look too much like an office setting?

What would you choose? Do you have pictures of your stairs and how you solved this?

So no worries. The company Schlüter is definitely the market leader! The last option is good. And if visitors come to you and say it looks like an office, the tiler can advise you. Functionality comes before aesthetics!

Well, I’m not sure. For a private staircase in a house, I think the Schlüter TREP-E is oversized and not exactly easy to clean quickly.

I would go for the simple version in stainless steel.

You shouldn’t be running down the stairs uncontrollably with socks on anyway.

That is also my concern—that it might be too much for a private home. I have never seen anything like this in someone’s house before. Especially since our children’s bedrooms are on the ground floor, so the kids don’t run up and down the stairs several times a day.
