I agree with you. As far as I know, the shell construction contractor handles the rough/heavy work (lintel blocks, backfilling, gravel, etc.) much more cheaply than a landscaping contractor, since they have heavy machinery available.

But you’re not referring to the paving, right?

Of course, why wouldn’t he do that?
Our structural builder also constructed our terrace (concrete).

He can take on many tasks, you just have to ask.

Unfortunately, this was not possible here.

Today, we received a preliminary verbal quote for paving 135 sqm (1453 sq ft) of carport area, the pathway around the house, and the terrace: 20,000€. This seems a bit high to me.

The work to be done in detail includes:
- adding about 40cm (16 inches) of soil in the carport area (75 sqm / 807 sq ft) to achieve the correct level
- building a dividing wall along the neighbor’s property line, approximately 12m (39 feet) at the carport (neighbor’s land is slightly lower)
- adjusting the garden level: starting from the existing terrain, roughly -20cm (-8 inches)
- a small wall from the carport driveway to the garden (the garden is higher than the carport), about 8m (26 feet)

The price is supposed to include everything except the paving stones themselves.

What is your assessment?

Based on this, I would calculate the labor costs to be roughly 10,000€ — not 20,000€.

I also think it’s too high. It sounds a bit like “take the money and run”—who knows how much longer the construction boom will last. This is an increasingly common attitude in the building industry.

Feel free to get some quotes for comparison. However, I doubt you’ll be able to get it down to 10. Instead of carport paving, using crushed granite for the driveway would bring financial relief.

I don’t find that overpriced for BY. If it’s done “properly,” it would be worth it to me. Our costs are similar, a bit higher though, including materials.
