Hello Forum!

I am looking for a bed that I can disguise as a sofa during the day. I don’t want a sofa bed, but more of a daybed, so to speak. Mandal would be perfect, especially because of the drawers.

However, the mattress just rests on the wooden frame or slatted base – I’m concerned that the mattress will shift often. What are your experiences with this?
I also have a question about the “slatted base,” which isn’t a traditional one. How does your back feel with the wooden slats? How do you sleep on it, and what mattress thickness would you recommend?

Thank you very much for your help!

Hello!!!

I’m really interested in this as well because this exact size would fit perfectly in our small room!
Does the mattress slip?
And how is the slatted frame?
Would you recommend the whole setup?

Best regards,
Nane

Hello,

this reply is quite late, but maybe it will help others. Currently, the bed is still available in Austria, but unfortunately no longer in Germany.

The slatted frame is a roll-up slatted base with a special size (width 136cm (54 inches)) and does not have any spring action. Together with the bed frame, it creates a flat support surface for the mattress. It is not fixed with screws but holds very well. The slatted base does not slip, does not creak, and does not produce any disturbing noises. To prevent the mattress from sliding, there are black stickers included that have a very rough surface – similar to sandpaper.

I own the bed and am satisfied with it. However, I use a mattress protector between the slatted base and the mattress, which can be found, for example, in mattress specialty stores. This ensures that the mattress’s underside, where it contacts the slatted base, does not wear out. It also prevents the mattress from slipping because there are rubber nubs on the bottom side, and the rough fabric on top securely holds the mattress in place.

The only downside (which I am currently experiencing) is the special size of the slatted base. There is no official replacement part available from Ikea for this.
