Hello everyone,
Now that our house is built, we have moved in, and the interior is designed according to our preferences, we are turning to the outdoor areas.
I am wondering what the best way is to create the transition from the terrace to the house wall.
The terrace will later be covered with natural stone slabs in a polygonal pattern. This means the base will be a reinforced concrete slab. The terrace will not be exactly level with the patio door; due to the terrain, one step will be necessary, which is not a big issue.
However, the terrace slab still needs to be properly connected to the house foundation. This consists of a reinforced concrete slab with XPS perimeter insulation. On top of the insulation is a relatively rough base render.
My question is, how should this connection be professionally and correctly executed? Should the terrace slab be concreted up to the house foundation, or is it advisable to leave a gap here that might then need to be sealed?
I have attached a small sketch that illustrates the situation more clearly. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance!

Layperson experience: We did not pour a slab foundation, but we did cast a foundation for the partition to the neighbor (semi-detached house). We left a minimal gap of 1-2cm (0.4-0.8 inches) — mainly due to the concrete formwork. We filled the gap with small gravel. Our house also extends over this area, so the transition was basically beneath the house — meaning no water reaches that spot anyway.
