Hello,
I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced issues with the IKEA Storm floor lamp or knows someone who has noticed burn marks (discoloration) on their carpet caused by it. After a while, I realized that this lamp leaves round marks on the carpet. At first, I thought it was just a shadow, but when I moved the lamp, I saw these discolorations on my carpet. Unfortunately, I have two of these lamps, so the rings appear in two different rooms.
I have already reported this to customer service, but they don’t believe that the lamp caused this damage. I have pretty much everything in my home from IKEA, and I love IKEA. But something like this has never happened to me before. I’ve never had any problems. I have owned the lamps since early 2009, but before that, they were standing on laminate flooring with no issues. Last year I moved, and now I have carpet. I had to replace one of the lamp shades because it was broken. Interestingly, that lamp doesn’t cause any discoloration. So this clearly indicates a product defect.
I have contacted customer service again and asked for help. But maybe someone else has had the same experience. I am grateful for any advice and hope that IKEA will believe me and support me in this. It is a minor damage, but it was not caused by me or any other object.
Best regards,
Diana

Maverick185413 Dec 2011 17:43Definitely contact IKEA again with pictures, and if they refuse, I would take the next step with a lawyer. Keep pursuing it until it is clear where the damage comes from.
Because simply putting in a new carpet also costs money. And if it’s the lamp, that’s important information for all other owners as well, right?
Keep us updated on how things progress...

Yes, I will keep you updated. I have already reported the incident to IKEA and sent all the photos, but their response was that they cannot cover the damage because they assume it wasn’t caused by the lamp.
Maybe I should actually send this to Galileo or the Akte... expose it. I definitely won’t be covering the damage myself since there is liability insurance for that. But I don’t see why they should pay for it. I’m waiting until the end of the week for hopefully a positive response from IKEA or at least a proposed solution. I also mentioned that I will take legal action if necessary. It’s really disappointing that they don’t even take a closer look.
I even contacted the managing director and sent an email. Sometimes that helps. I work for a large corporation myself, and we always treat our customers courteously when problems arise.
Let’s wait and see. If not, I guess I’ll have to make it public that IKEA is not covering this damage, even though I swear on my horses’ lives that the lamp caused it. But that won’t help either.
Best regards and thanks for the replies.

Oh man, can’t you imagine that materials like metal and fabrics (whichever ones) combined with the carpet material could cause a discoloration or color effect?
Are you familiar with the FOG effect in apartments? White walls suddenly turning black?!
For a long time, residents were thought to be crazy! But then it was discovered that emissions from PVC flooring and similar materials cause this.
But then they prefer to call Galileo when someone seriously tries to provide evidence with pictures...
Yeah right, instead they’d rather chat in the forum with spammers they don’t recognize, one-hit wonders who have been here for a year and post advertising domains... No guys, yeah right... (see there, I’m not posting the links because the admin will delete them soon anyway)
