Hello,
I wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced issues with the IKEA Storm floor lamp or knows someone who has noticed burn marks (discoloration) on their carpet caused by it. After a while, I realized that this lamp leaves round marks on the carpet. At first, I thought it was just a shadow, but when I moved the lamp, I saw these discolorations on my carpet. Unfortunately, I have two of these lamps, so the rings appear in two different rooms.
I have already reported this to customer service, but they don’t believe that the lamp caused this damage. I have pretty much everything in my home from IKEA, and I love IKEA. But something like this has never happened to me before. I’ve never had any problems. I have owned the lamps since early 2009, but before that, they were standing on laminate flooring with no issues. Last year I moved, and now I have carpet. I had to replace one of the lamp shades because it was broken. Interestingly, that lamp doesn’t cause any discoloration. So this clearly indicates a product defect.
I have contacted customer service again and asked for help. But maybe someone else has had the same experience. I am grateful for any advice and hope that IKEA will believe me and support me in this. It is a minor damage, but it was not caused by me or any other object.
Best regards,
Diana

IKEA-Experte12 Dec 2011 16:22I am not familiar with this problem. Looking at the lamp, the base itself shouldn’t really get hot. Could there be a rubber ring at the base that leaves a mark? I can understand that during service, it’s hard to believe the fixture could leave burn marks.

Nayla_106812 Dec 2011 21:40Hmm,
I’ve never heard of that either. At first, I thought it might be strong sunlight reflecting off the lamp base. But that doesn’t really make sense on carpet. Basically, it’s possible that a product rail is defective.
The best approach would be to send an email to Ikea Germany, ideally with a photo.
Please keep us updated, okay?

IKEA-Profi12 Dec 2011 21:47IKEA is as sensitive to "threats" or hazards from products as they can be; such items would never be sold if there were actual burn marks. I also suspect it’s the rubber...
Hello,
At the moment, there is only one lamp installed; I used to have two bulbs in there before. Maybe that makes a difference. I thought it might be caused by the wire inside the paper. It must have something to do with the light because when I only have the lamp lit in a dark room, the ring is barely visible since at that point the exact light level can be seen.
I just don’t know what else to try. It was definitely this lamp. I have already scrubbed it with all kinds of cleaning methods to remove it, but no chance. The carpet doesn’t feel different or shorter at the spot of the ring or anything. Only this discoloration is visible. Ikea doesn’t believe me, and I really don’t know what to do.
Now I probably have to report it to my liability insurance, even though I didn’t cause this damage. And as I said, I have two lamps and already had to replace the lampshades because they were broken. Now I have no problems with them. I placed a lamp with a replaced shade on one of the already affected carpets. There is absolutely NOTHING visible. Can someone explain this to me? And how on earth am I supposed to have caused these rings myself?
I am more than disappointed with Ikea. I seem to be the only one having this problem. But actually, that should be a positive thing, since it would mean it’s just a single production defect. Just bad luck that I ended up with it. Ikea is such a large company. I really expected some support.
Oh, and in the photo with the darker carpet, you can see one ring and a slightly shifted ring. At that time, I had moved the lamp slightly. That’s when I really noticed it clearly.
Best regards,
Diana
