We have a small dilemma with our upcoming build regarding the color of the windows and roller shutters. We would like to have windows in Winchester color (both sides coated). Unfortunately, the window manufacturer does not offer matching roller shutter slats in that color. Therefore, we are considering choosing the roller shutters in anthracite (the same as the roof). However, we haven’t been able to find any pictures of this combination. Then there is the question of what color the guide rails and the trim should be, as these are available in Winchester.
To summarize, we are currently torn between:
- Winchester windows with roller shutter slats in anthracite. What color should the guide rails and trim be?
- Or quite plain windows in anthracite (coated on one side; white on the other) with roller shutters also in anthracite.
Does anyone perhaps have the same color combination and can offer some advice?

Hello,
I would be very cautious with dark roller shutter slats. They tend to get very hot, which can cause problems. You can probably forget about plastic slats in that case. From my own experience, I would always recommend aluminum slats instead. (After two years of constant issues with warping plastic slats, we replaced them all with aluminum.) I suggest choosing the natural aluminum finish rather than any color. On all other colors, you will sooner or later notice scratches and marks. Also, when it comes to visibility of dirt, aluminum/silver is a very forgiving color.
Best regards,
Andreas

Then go with a light gray. But please, not anthracite.
Fake wood, yes – but it shouldn't be cheap plastic foil. That looks really cheap, especially since you're always close to it (and it actually is cheap because it's just plastic foil).
The advantage would be that you could buy a complete apartment furnishing including the kitchen for 2,500€ at the cheapest furniture store. The look would match the windows. Sorry, that was harsh... Don’t take it personally. @11ant is already cursing me because we want wood-look tiles 🙂
By the way, the kitchen is coming from the carpenter. I wish it would cost 2,500€ 🙂

Unfortunately, the window manufacturer doesn’t have matching roller shutter slats. So, we are considering choosing them in anthracite (just like the roof). I fail to see the association of a hunting rifle with a window color. At night, not only cats are gray. I wouldn’t put much design thought into roller shutters. In anthracite or similar dark shades, I wouldn’t choose them from any material—unless I intended to use the air gap between the roller shutters and window panes as a radiation heater. To avoid repeating myself, I’ll say it once more: RAL is not Pantone. It feels like there are fifty shades of gray between the anthracite of the window film and the anthracite of the roof tiles. I’d rather have harmonious, clearly intentionally different tones than a failed attempt at color matching.

Don’t take it the wrong way. @11ant is already cursing me because we want wood-look tiles. Slander! I find ceramic wood just as unnecessary as strawberry-flavored bratwurst.

Fake wood is found throughout the house. Whether in kitchen fronts (usually not solid wood) or laminated countertops, on the floor with wood-look tiles or vinyl, etc. For us, this wouldn’t be a dealbreaker. I have two tips:
1. Reduce plastic use in the house as much as possible.
2. Minimize the number of different wood finishes and grain patterns/structures as much as possible.
Both tend to detract from the overall quality.
