Hello everyone,

(Hope I don’t get banned right away for posting a bunch of crap…)

Some animal is leaving a pile of droppings on our lawn almost every night, strangely always in almost the same spot (plus or minus 2 m (6.5 ft)). At first, I suspected the neighbor’s cat, but the pile seems too large for a cat, right? Also, don’t cats usually go into garden beds rather than right in the middle of the lawn?

Grass in the garden with dog poop

Question: Can anyone tell me if this could still be cat droppings? If so, I guess a conversation with the neighbors is due.

I’m getting tired of cleaning it up every morning, and even more worried that my kids might step in it while playing or that my son might try to taste it. My nephew once caught worms that way, which was quite unpleasant. That really shouldn’t happen.

And if it’s something else: what could it be and, above all, how do I get rid of it?
Barbed wire, spring-loaded traps, anti-aircraft guns, nuclear bomb?

Best regards,
Andreas

I’m in favor of a motion-activated sprinkler system. That way, the lawn gets a shower too.

You don’t really want to catch the animal now, do you?

Hello Snowy,

why not catch it in a live trap?
Once the owner is identified and the cat’s home confirmed, they can get it back. But then they should make sure it no longer soils the garden.
The owner is responsible. How they handle it is their problem.
I can think of other ways to train the animal not to defecate in the garden.
Cat owners are strange creatures. Their pets cause damage, and they say there’s nothing they can do about it.

Hello kaho

The cat owner can take care of purchasing and installing that at their own expense. It would be an appropriate way to keep the lawn clean from waste.

There will be a shower for the lawn soon.

And a drainage aid for the applied slurry.

Sure. I don’t think it’s expensive. A motion sensor is no big deal, and a small pump with a sprinkler is also easy to manage. The only question is where to put the water tank.

I am still seriously considering a simpler solution: marking the spot with a little pile from your own junior pet, which would likely confuse the cat and make it avoid that area.

Alternatively, you could dust off an old light organ from the depths of the hobby cellar and trigger it remotely with the camera. Wherever it "flashes," it would be uncomfortable as well.
