For the redesign of our kitchen, we would like to cover the wall between the countertop and the upper cabinets – initially, we naturally thought of the Fastbo panels. However, we don’t really like the color options, and since they are only 50cm (20 inches) wide, there would always be visible seams.

Now we are considering using cabinet doors from a tall cabinet instead, perhaps in the same color as our desired fronts (Ringhult cream white). This means placing the cabinet door horizontally against the wall on the countertop, secured at the top with 2-3 screws anchored into the wall. The base cabinets would be lowered slightly to cover the screws – because of the thickness of the panel, the cabinets would then hang at an angle. So, I would not screw the upper cabinet rails directly to the wall but add some support underneath.

What do you think of this idea… 😕

I am a fan of tiles. With the Ringhult front, I would be concerned that it won’t hold up well to cleaning behind the cooktop without becoming unattractive over time.

The concern that the surface behind the cooktop might eventually get damaged is understandable... But you could install a glass panel in front of it... As I have found, others before me have had similar thoughts.

You just have to know what you like. I wouldn’t really prefer a niche cladding in the same color and like contrasts better, but that’s a matter of personal taste. The glass panel would need to be sealed all around; otherwise, moisture and dirt will probably get between the glass panel and the Ringhult countertop surface.
