Hello everyone,

We plan to sow grass soon. Are there any recommendations?

About 120 sqm (1300 sq ft), mostly sunny, only shaded in the evening hours. It should be a "play" lawn since our kids are still young.

Is a standard off-the-shelf seed mix from the hardware store sufficient, or what should be used?

I would definitely go for instant turf. Otherwise, you’ll hardly be able to use it this season.

A friend of mine studied this topic during her university studies. She once gave me a lecture about good lawn and its requirements. Even today, I still find it mind-blowing.

Conclusion: Good turf roll is not available at the hardware store. Quality turf roll costs between 10–15 euros per square meter.

Grass seed from the hardware store is, with few exceptions, more like weeds than proper lawn. What you need depends heavily on your soil and light conditions.

Where does good turf cost more than €6? All local companies offer it here for around €12 including installation. Garden centers charge more...

Turf at these prices often does not root properly and is very sensitive when the weather gets warmer.
Since she studied this subject and has also worked for a company that provides consulting in this area, I fully trust her on this.

That was not my question. I obtained three quotes from local companies and also searched online. The price range was less than one euro. Roots should not be an issue. The local companies provide a guarantee when contracted, including installation.

It seems that theory and practice simply do not match here. The standard retail market does not offer this miracle lawn for €10-15/m² (approximately $11-17/ft²) at all. The average customer will have to settle for the lower-quality weed grass ^^
