Hello everyone,

I have another question for you: What would you prefer?

1. A bungalow of about 130-140 m² (1400-1500 sq ft) with a partial basement. The basement would include a double garage and two storage rooms. The garage is possible because the house is built on a slope.

2. A classic one-and-a-half-story house with 150-160 m² (1600-1700 sq ft) of living space, without a basement. The double garage would be built in the traditional way on the side.

Both houses would have a fixed staircase leading to the attic space, intended as potential expansion space and storage.

What do you think? Which option would likely be more expensive? Which is more practical for a family of four? The house should also be suitable for later in life. The plot is definitely large enough for both options, and in both cases, there would still be enough garden space, with the surroundings being quite green and undeveloped.

I would appreciate your input!

Best regards

Don’t you have any opinion at all? Or is the question formulated too generally? *thinking*

The cost question would be interesting, though.

I hope I’m not being too direct, but looking at your question history, it seems you still have very little clarity about what you want or which solution regarding house construction is right for you. Certainly, a forum can help you with this, but you need to answer the basic questions for yourself first before detailed answers can be given here. Your question above is comparable to: Which tastes better – 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) of apples or 1 pound (0.45 kilograms) of pears?

No offense intended

Hmm, that's a pity... I know other forums where people are more talkative... I probably had the wrong expectations about this one.

At the moment, we have several plots of land under consideration and are narrowing them down to seven. This also depends on the house type and style, etc. I just thought that a general exchange of ideas would be possible here as well.

You already know the answer from one of your other threads:
A sloping site should be discussed with an architect, because in my opinion the best solution would be a split-level design (bungalow at the front, 1.5 levels towards the back). But you would need to know the plot better for that. Also, you should fundamentally prefer and like that type of construction.
But since that’s not really your thing, as you said,
then from your perspective this plot should probably be ruled out, otherwise it would be a wasted effort.
Take a look at the Schwö*** website; they have some bungalows designed for sloping sites...

Otherwise, I would choose the plot based on the location!

The question is, what can you afford...? A bungalow is significantly more expensive than the typical one-and-a-half to two-story house, which is why the latter option is built much more frequently. For such a bungalow, you will also need at least 500 m² (5,380 sq ft) of land... do you have that?
