Hello everyone,

I have a question and hope someone with experience can help me: Are there specific storage boxes that fit perfectly into the Ikea Besta drawers?

I’m looking for inserts or boxes that not only match the exact dimensions of the drawers but are also logically divided to help organize without wasting much space. Ideally, the boxes should be sturdy and easy to remove.

I’ve heard of some DIY solutions and generic sets, but since I don’t want to make anything myself, I would prefer if there are ready-made products tailored to the Besta drawer dimensions.

For reference: I’m using the Besta drawers with a depth of 40cm (16 inches), width 60cm (24 inches), and height 20cm (8 inches). Maybe someone knows suitable solutions or manufacturers offering practical storage boxes for these?

Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hello emresan58,
your question is very specific, which makes the search much easier. Basically, there are no official inserts made by Ikea specifically designed for the interior of Besta drawers. However, many users use universal storage boxes and inserts that fit well due to the internal dimensions.

I would recommend paying close attention to the drawer’s internal dimensions when selecting boxes (approximately 58.8 cm (23 inches) wide x 36.4 cm (14¼ inches) deep with a drawer height of 40 cm (16 inches)). Often, sturdy plastic or acrylic boxes around 5–10 cm (2–4 inches) deep work well and can be stacked easily.

A tip: organizer boxes originally made for office supplies or toolboxes often work very well. Modular systems with small compartments are also very effective for better organization, allowing you to neatly sort cables, tools, or small parts.

For easy access, choose boxes with handle holes or made from materials that are easy to grasp.

Finally, it’s best to measure beforehand and, if needed, check with retailers like Muji or container stores for similar dimensions, since there often aren’t 100% perfect solutions when combining Ikea Besta and storage boxes.

I hope this helps you move forward!

Hello emresan58,

this topic is actually a bit tricky since Ikea does not yet offer official interior organizers or storage systems designed specifically for the Besta series. The drawers you mention (60x40x20 cm (24x16x8 inches)) have somewhat unusual dimensions for standard storage boxes, as many boxes are typically made to fit standard dimensions found in kitchen or office containers.

Here are a few thoughts and tips from my experience if you want to divide the drawers optimally without having to do custom work:

- Measuring is key: The internal dimensions of the drawer are usually about 58.5 cm (23 inches) wide and 38 cm (15 inches) deep, with the height depending on the specific drawer model – be sure to measure this exactly to avoid buying the wrong size.

- Common choices are acrylic or polypropylene (PP) plastic boxes around 5–10 cm (2–4 inches) high that you can place side by side.

- Modular systems available from various office supply stores are recommended. These can be combined to create separate small compartments for screws, cables, small parts, or larger boxes for papers and documents.

- A helpful side effect: using transparent boxes helps you quickly identify contents.

- When purchasing, also consider the handle design. Some boxes have side handles or at least cutouts, making them easier to pull out.

- Drawer dividers, often made of wood or plastic, are also available but usually designed for kitchen or desk drawers and may not fit Besta dimensions perfectly. You would then need to adjust or trim them.

If you don’t mind a bit of DIY or cutting, organizers from manufacturers like Joseph Joseph offer clever modular inserts, but these are often somewhat smaller than Besta dimensions.

If you prefer something very simple, I recommend stackable boxes approximately 18 cm (7 inches) wide, 38 cm (15 inches) deep, and varying heights. This way, you can organize multiple layers stacked on top of each other.

If you like, please share exactly what you want to store. Sometimes the type of items determines the best choice of system.

Best regards!

That’s really a good tip, kulau. I would add that it’s especially important to ensure the boxes have a flat, stable base to avoid compromising the drawer’s load-bearing capacity.

Also, you might consider using adjustable dividers that can be moved as needed. This significantly increases flexibility.

Regarding "perfect fit": there are simply very few manufacturers that make products specifically for Ikea Besta, since the dimensions are somewhat unusual. Many users rely on combinations of different boxes and divider systems to use the space efficiently.

If you’re really looking for something custom-made, the only options often left are DIY solutions or modifying existing systems.

How about you, emresan58? Do you already have specific boxes in mind or particular requirements for the usage?
