ᐅ Are spare parts available for defective Malm components?

I wanted to ask the community if there are official replacement parts available for damaged Malm furniture components and how to best obtain them. Specifically, I am interested in a damaged drawer slide for a MALM dresser unit from IKEA, manufactured around 2016. Are there reliable sources for such parts, or do you generally have to rely on third-party suppliers or DIY solutions? It would also be helpful to know whether IKEA sells individual parts like these or only replaces entire furniture pieces.

Or are there perhaps any experiences with third-party spare parts that really fit well?

One more thing on that: The problem with third-party spare parts is usually that IKEA uses special drill holes and adapters. A standard drawer slide might fit mechanically but often has different hole spacing. This results in longer repair times and frequent rework.

My advice: If you are technically skilled, many adjustments can be made cleanly, but it may take time. Otherwise, contact IKEA and be patient if necessary.

If you want to try something, always start with simple fastenings so it’s easier to undo if it doesn't fit.

I can add something light to finish: A broken drawer slide rail doesn’t have to mean the end of the dresser. Sometimes a bit of DIY with lubricant and some adjustments is enough. And if you have a spare part – even better. Fingers crossed! 🙂

That explains a lot. Tomorrow, I’ll stop by IKEA again to clarify the situation with the official customer service and spare parts on site.

Thanks for the detailed tips—they help a lot. If I manage to get spare parts directly from IKEA, I’ll share my experience here.
