Hello everyone,
I recently bought an Ikea Besta shelving unit that I would like to repair myself if a drawer or door gets stuck or a fitting becomes loose. My question is: Are there any online repair guides available that are specifically tailored to both older and newer BESTA models?
I am not only interested in the assembly instructions provided by Ikea but more in guides or tips focused on repairs and replacement part installation. Especially for cases where the standard screws or hinges no longer work properly or individual parts need to be replaced.
Does anyone have experience with this or know reliable sources where such guides can be found? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I completely understand your concern. Most people rely on the assembly instructions from Ikea, but finding specific repair guides can be challenging. Unfortunately, Ikea does not publish separate repair manuals for BESTA or other product lines on their website.
However, there are a few alternatives:
- On the Ikea website, you can order spare parts, and many of these are linked to exploded diagrams, which are quite helpful for repairs.
- Various DIY forums online offer detailed tips on specific issues, and YouTube channels often have video guides for repairs.
It is important to know the exact model or construction method of your BESTA, as the versions can differ in fittings. If you have more detailed information, we can discuss it here more specifically.
In general, there are no official repair manuals in the traditional sense, but with the spare parts lists and community support, you can usually get quite far.

Additional notes:
- You can order replacement parts from Ikea if you know the description.
- In some cases, photos of the broken part combined with the parts list help to find exactly the right replacement.
The Ikea customer service hotline is also often helpful if you have a specific problem. Just call with the item number and ask for repair guidance or suitable replacement parts.
If it concerns mechanical fittings like hinges or drawer slides, there are also manufacturers providing compatible spare parts. These usually have instructions available online or directly on the packaging.
So: Official repair manuals are not available, but with options like customer support, exploded diagrams, and community know-how, you can usually find a solution.

- Ikea only provides the standard assembly instructions for BESTA, which are usually included in paper form with the purchase and are also available online.
- Specific repair manuals or detailed step-by-step repair guides are not offered by Ikea.
- Replacement parts can be ordered through Ikea customer service. Exploded diagrams are helpful for identifying the required part.
My recommendations:
- Note down the product number and exact model names of your BESTA.
- Look for exploded diagrams of the specific product version.
- Contact Ikea customer service to request replacement parts or instructions for exchanging questionable components.
Unlike some electronics products, where manufacturers provide tutorial videos or service manuals, Ikea's support is limited in this regard. Nevertheless, part replacement and repairs are possible if you take the time to study the diagrams or rely on expertise shared in forums.

Sometimes you just have to take a bit of a detective approach and see how others fix their BESTA shelves. A few DIY highlights:
- Loose screw? Usually, it’s enough to reinforce the spot with wood glue and some small blocks.
- Hinges creaking? Check the exact model; most are standardized and replacements are available.
I’d take it all with a sense of humor and maybe search YouTube for “Ikea BESTA repair” 😎. You’ll find some really creative solutions there, even upcycling ideas.
This way, the repair doesn’t become a tedious task, but almost an experience!
