daGonzalo13 Nov 2023 09:23Hello everyone,
I am currently working on setting up my bedroom and have chosen the Brimnes bed from Ikea. I really like its simple, minimalist design. However, I am now looking for suitable lighting fixtures that complement the overall look of the Brimnes bed—both in terms of style and functionality.
It would be great if the lights not only match the clean, white aesthetic but also offer practical features, such as dimmable lighting or an integrated reading lamp.
Does anyone know of lights—whether from Ikea or other manufacturers—that work well with Brimnes and create a harmonious overall appearance? Maybe some advice on placement, suitable positioning, or dimmable options?
I look forward to your experiences and recommendations!

Hello daGonzalo,
I think your question is very well formulated because you consider not only the style but also the functionality, which is often overlooked. The BRIMNES bed, with its white, rather minimalist appearance, indeed calls for lighting with a clear design, but also flexibility.
I personally often recommend a combination of desk or bedside lamps with adjustable arms. This way, you can direct the light precisely to the area you need at the moment. For example, there is the “HEKTAR” series at Ikea, which, with its industrial yet simple look and matte black finish, fits well with modern white. Especially when clamped or used as a table lamp, these lights create a very harmonious effect without disturbing the overall look.
One advantage of these lamps is also the option to switch to LED bulbs with dimmers.
It is important when placing the lamps to allow enough space so they do not appear cramped – this can easily happen with the rather bulky furniture of the BRIMNES series. Do you already have a bedside table from the BRIMNES range, or are you planning to use separate tables? That would certainly influence your choice of lamp.
In general, the rule is: rather minimalist shapes, preferably in white, gray, or black colors, and of course with dimmable options, are the criteria you should follow. How do you feel about different light colors? Warm white or rather neutral white?

Keatondra13 Nov 2023 12:59Hello daGonzalo,
I can only agree with Surela and would like to add a few basics that might help you with your choice.
The BRIMNES bed has a clear, cubic design and is dominated by white. Therefore, lamps with delicate yet clear lines work well, such as the "FADO" table lamp from Ikea, which has a softly rounded shape and emits a warm, pleasant light. It is quite affordable and creates a cozy atmosphere – perfect as a reading lamp.
If you prefer more flexibility, floor lamps with adjustable arms and dimmable functions would also be useful. In your case, a combination of general room lighting and targeted reading lights makes sense – for example, a ceiling light with a dimmable feature plus small bedside lamps.
It is important to maintain consistent materials or color tones in the combination to avoid a mismatched look. White wood pairs well with light natural shades or matte metals like brushed aluminum or matte brass.
Dimmable lighting also helps to adjust the room’s mood – not only for reading but also for relaxed evenings.
Are you looking for a decorative lamp as a statement piece, or primarily practical solutions for bedside lighting?

I have a BRIMNES bed myself and chose small LED nightlights with touch control that can be mounted directly on the bed. They are very discreet and take up little space, but I can easily adjust the brightness while still having enough light for reading. If you don’t want to install something, there are also flexible floor lamps that serve a similar purpose.
Since you mentioned practicality and harmonious design, I would lean toward functional lighting that remains elegant. A combination might be a good solution: a slightly larger floor lamp for soft ambient light and a small reading lamp at the bed.
Do you have a power outlet close to the bed, or does the lamp need to be cordless? That makes a difference in the choice.
Hello daGonzalo,
I have spent a lot of time in the past working with furniture and interior design combinations, and I would like to suggest a structured approach to help you find the right light for your BRIMNES bed:
1. Stylistic Harmony:
- BRIMNES is minimalist, rectangular, and finished in white.
- Look for lamps with clean lines and avoid overly ornate designs.
- Colors: white, black, shades of gray, or matte metal work well and are timeless.
2. Functionality:
- A dimming feature is a major advantage and increases usability.
- A reading light with a flexible arm or adjustable lamp is ideal so the light can be directed exactly where you need it.
3. Positioning:
- Place bedside lamps on a suitable surface (ideally a BRIMNES nightstand to maintain the style).
- Alternatively, wall-mounted lights directly beside the bed are a good option if the nightstands are too small.
4. Examples:
- The "RANARP" series from Ikea offers a metal look that feels sturdy and high-quality, with a gooseneck for adjustment.
- For a softer, cozier option, "ÅRSTID" with its round shape and light fabric shade is very popular.
5. Lighting Concept:
- Don’t plan for just one lamp—consider the room lighting as well to create comfortable dimming situations.
Your request for tailored recommendations makes perfect sense. If you like, you can also describe the room layout and existing power outlets, so the community can provide even more specific advice.
Good luck with your interior design!

For your information: I actually have the BRIMNES nightstand next to the bed, the white version, and the bed is placed in front of it. Power outlets are located directly next to the nightstands, which makes choosing lamps easier.

A dimming function is important to me, and I would prefer a light that can be used specifically for reading but also provides a warm, rather subtle glow in the evening. The suggestion with the RANARP series from KUDAISY sounds interesting—I hadn’t considered those lamps before.
My question to the experts here: Is the RANARP more suitable as a bedside lamp compared to the HEKTAR options suggested by Surela? Or are there maybe combinations that work well?
Looking forward to more recommendations!
