Hello everyone,
I am currently exploring the IKEA PLATSA system to plan storage solutions for our children's room. I have a specific question: Are there any IKEA PLATSA furniture pieces designed especially for children's compartments or kid-friendly storage configurations?
More precisely, I am interested in whether there are modular PLATSA wardrobe combinations or accessories tailored to children’s needs – for example, smaller compartments, easy-to-reach boxes, secure drawers with built-in child safety features, or perhaps special color accents that make sorting and organizing easier.
The reason I ask is that, so far, I have mostly seen standard modules with classic compartments and doors in stores and online, but nothing that seems specifically “child-friendly.”
Maybe someone here has experience using IKEA PLATSA furniture in children’s rooms or knows of special extensions or suitable add-ons that optimize the system for kids’ rooms?
I look forward to your helpful answers and tips. Thanks in advance!

I find it interesting how many people always hope for something like "special children’s compartments." Why would Ikea create a separate children’s line for PLATSA when the modules can be customized individually?
In my opinion, this is more of a wishful thinking from parents looking for an all-in-one solution. But that is exactly the great strength of PLATSA: modularity and flexibility. A fixed children’s variant would completely limit this advantage.
I think those who need children’s compartments should rather invest in accessories and see the PLATSA system itself as a neutral framework.

The question is how well IKEA considers the needs of children—such as ergonomics, safety, and usability—when designing the modular elements. If the cabinets are primarily designed for adults, optimization for children might indeed be lacking.
Perhaps a separate children’s segment would make sense to better address these aspects. Still, simply mixing and matching boxes and compartments is a practical solution, but not necessarily the best one.
I have gained experience with PLATSA for the children's room. Although there are no specific children's compartments, we used smaller colorful boxes and smooth-running drawers.
What was crucial for us is that the children understand the storage system and can easily reach it. The colored boxes really helped with this.
In my opinion, there should also be personal space, as every child has different needs. What counts as a "children's compartment" for one child may be unsuitable for another.
I think the approach of using modular units with PLATSA to customize the setup yourself is quite good. Sometimes parents look too much for the perfect "children's solution," but it is almost always more practical to arrange it according to the children’s individual needs.

Make sure to check for anti-tip safety features, which are standard with PLATSA, but always double-check before purchasing. Thanks for the advice, I had already read about it, but it’s good to know that it’s not an exception, but the norm with PLATSA. Safety is especially important to me when it comes to children.

The colored boxes really helped with that.Color-coded elements are a good idea for me anyway. They improve organization and make it more appealing for children to keep things tidy.
I will put together some new combinations for our specific children’s room and see how I can create a practical solution using different front colors and boxes.
