Hello everyone, I’m currently planning a new wardrobe and came across the Ikea Pax system, which is very flexible. However, my question is a bit more specific: Are there any versions or fixed integrated elements within the Ikea Pax wardrobes that are specifically designed as shoe racks? I don’t mean just general shelves that can be used for shoes, but dedicated, built-in shoe shelves in the Pax systems. Maybe Ikea offers special inserts, or even better, a fixed shoe compartment inside the wardrobes? I want to optimize the wardrobe space for shoes without having to place individual shelves flexibly. Thanks for your experiences and tips!
In short: No, Ikea does not offer a Pax wardrobe version with fixed, built-in shoe shelves. However, there are various shelves and drawers that can be used as shoe storage. To my knowledge, specifically integrated surfaces designed solely for shoes are not part of the standard range.

You can position adjustable shelves at various heights and use foldable shoe boxes or shoe storage containers placed on the shelves. There are also angled inserts available, similar to a shoe rack. However, these are more of an accessory and are not standard built-in features.
If you are specifically looking for fixed, angled shoe shelves, Ikea usually requires you to purchase accessories separately or consider custom expert solutions. I would recommend making use of the existing modular options and opting for flexible solutions to organize the shoe area most effectively.
Have you already checked which “inserts” are available separately from Ikea? They can greatly simplify the shoe storage space.

Could you please explain in more detail what kind of insert shelves these are and how flexible the system really is in terms of installation options? Is it the case that these angled shelves can be ordered later and simply hooked into the Pax frame, or do they require special modifications?
I’m also curious whether this actually optimizes storage space, or if it involves compromises that make it less practical than a truly integrated shoe storage area.
I appreciate any experiences shared, as I want to avoid having to modify the wardrobe later if the solution doesn’t work well.

Thank you, that sounds interesting. You’re welcome! 😊 The idea of slanted shelves is indeed a clever solution that Ikea offers. They are sold separately and can be easily hooked into the pre-drilled holes of the Pax frame—so no special tools are needed. The angled position helps store shoes in an organized and space-saving way, especially for flat models or sneakers.
BUT: It’s not a permanently built-in part of the wardrobe, rather a handy Ikea hack. You have to buy the boxes or frames yourself and add these components as you wish. The advantage is that you stay very flexible and can rearrange if your shoe collection changes.
And the nice thing is, you can also combine baskets or boxes. This makes it not only practical but also tidy in appearance. In the end, it’s not a fixed shoe compartment, but both visually and functionally quite close! A bit of flexibility always creates some extra freedom. 😉
If you are looking for a truly rigid shoe cabinet version, that’s actually difficult with Ikea—you’d probably have to look for individual shoe furniture instead.
