deoariad412 Oct 2015 16:23Hello everyone, I’m currently researching the IKEA PAX wardrobe system and have a rather specific question: Are there currently, or have there been in recent collections, any glass or mirrored doors available for the PAX wardrobes?
I’m looking for an elegant solution that makes the wardrobe appear more modern and airy without having to switch to a completely different system. In my opinion, glass or mirrored doors would have a significant visual impact and make the room feel brighter.
Does anyone know the range well enough to provide a reliable answer? And if these doors are not available for PAX, do you know of any alternatives or tips on how to modify a PAX wardrobe in this regard?
Thanks in advance for your input!

Are there currently or in recent collections glass or mirrored doors available for IKEA’s PAX wardrobes? The answer to your question is twofold: IKEA offers mirrored doors alongside the classic doors in the PAX system. These are usually fully mirrored, covering the entire door panel, and are especially suitable if you want to visually enlarge the room.
Glass as a material option for doors without mirrors is much less common. Often, these are doors with a glass window, commonly called display or glass-panel doors. These are ideal if you want to showcase products or clothing visibly.
If you are looking for a continuous glass panel (whether mouth-blown or non-mirrored), IKEA’s range for PAX is quite limited. For such a solution, there are two common alternatives:
- Retrofit kits from third-party suppliers designed specifically for PAX doors.
- Custom-made doors used as replacements, ensuring that the fixtures are compatible with the PAX frame.
When choosing mirrored or glass doors, make sure they are equipped with safety glass to prevent injuries in case of breakage.
Summary:
- PAX mirrored doors: yes, they exist and are widely available.
- PAX glass fronts (transparent): only as display doors with glass inserts, not full glass panels.
- Full glass fronts: require third-party custom solutions or accessory kits.
If you need further advice, feel free to ask!

PAX mirror doors: yes, they are available and easy to find.Interesting, but I would still question the durability and longevity of these mirror doors. Mirror glass can be quite delicate, especially with everyday use.
Also, the visual effect depends heavily on the lighting and the size of the room. A mirror does not always work well in small, dark spaces.
When it comes to glass fronts, I also wonder how cleaning and fingerprints are managed, as this is often underestimated.
Are there reliable experiences or alternatives that are low-maintenance yet still offer the glass aesthetic?
Personally, I would recommend carefully considering whether switching to these doors truly adds value, or if other design options might be more practical.
