Hello everyone,

I am planning a small move within my apartment soon and will be handling an IKEA Brimnes piece of furniture (such as a bed frame or wardrobe). Since I know these pieces are stylish but can be quite bulky and awkward, I wanted to ask: Are there any specific tips or helpful tricks for handling Brimnes furniture, especially regarding transport, possible disassembly, and safe reassembly?

I am particularly interested in hearing about other users’ experiences to make handling easier, such as helpful tools for carrying, time planning, or safety advice concerning screws and assembly.

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Hello Lirake,
I can definitely understand how stressful moving furniture can be. The BRIMNES system is practical, but I also found it quite heavy and awkward to carry.

A tip from me: Make sure to schedule plenty of breaks and always have spare screws on hand in case something gets lost or damaged. I’ve also had good experiences carrying the larger pieces with a partner because it’s often hard to control them alone.

If you like, I can recommend specific tools I used, such as small felt pads that make it easier to slide the furniture.

Last but not least: Take your time during reassembly. Ikea instructions can sometimes be tricky, so there’s no need to rush.

Hello Lirake,

I completely understand your situation. Especially with the BRIMNES system, I recommend a structured approach:

- Take photos of the furniture before disassembling to make reassembly easier.
- Sort the screws and, if necessary, store them in small containers to avoid losing any.
- Use a transport dolly or furniture rollers, as they make handling much easier.
- Be careful with low doorways and stair clearances: some parts are long and difficult to tilt.

Also helpful: plan enough time and have all tools within reach. Sometimes a metal screwdriver works better than the one provided.

If you need more details or have questions about the tools, feel free to ask!

As an additional tip: If possible, disassemble the BRIMNES furniture completely before transport. This makes handling significantly easier, especially since the bed frame is often too bulky.

When working with BRIMNES, it is best to wear gloves and protect floors with blankets. Additionally, secure any loose screws to prevent them from getting lost.

Good tip, thanks. How many spares do you think are reasonable, especially since some parts often need replacing with Ikea furniture?

I wouldn’t have thought of that. I’ll definitely do it.

And what exactly do you mean by "transport wheel"? Are you referring to a furniture dolly? Can it really support such a rather heavy construction?
