Nemu70Hello everyone, I am currently planning to equip my small laundry room with an Ikea Pax wardrobe system and wondered if anyone has experience using Pax in humid rooms.
Specifically, I am interested in how durable the materials are under high humidity, whether there are weak points in the cabinet doors or interior, and how it performs in long-term use. For example, are there issues with swelling or fittings that rust quickly?
I would also appreciate any advice on whether additional measures like special coatings, seals, or ventilation elements are needed to extend the cabinet’s lifespan. Thanks in advance!

Basically, Ikea Pax is not specifically designed for wet rooms, as the materials primarily consist of particleboard with melamine-coated surfaces.
- The melamine coating is only moderately water-resistant; prolonged exposure to moisture can cause swelling at edges and joints.
- The fittings are usually galvanized, so corrosion protection should be considered.
- A practical solution is to raise the cabinet slightly off the floor and ensure sufficient air circulation.
As an additional measure, I recommend sealing the visible edges with waterproof varnish or silicone. This significantly increases the durability.

I have had my Pax wardrobe in the bathroom for 2 years now, right next to the shower. That sounds promising at first, but do you consider that representative?
Humidity levels in the room fluctuate significantly, especially when showering, which causes condensation to form in various places. A cabinet without slats or ventilation risks hidden mold growth or material damage.
It would be interesting to know what precautions you have taken or whether you check it DAILY for moisture regularly.

I find it questionable to recommend Pax at all for damp rooms, especially considering there are affordable alternatives specifically designed to be moisture-resistant.
Who wants to risk wardrobe damage and costly repairs after just a few years? I would recommend choosing bathroom furniture made with waterproof materials for such areas.
