Hello everyone,
I am considering buying an IKEA Brimnes bedroom set, mainly because of the included drawers. My specific question is: Are the IKEA Brimnes drawers really sturdy enough to safely store heavy items like stacks of books, electronic devices, or tools without sagging, getting damaged, or the runners bending over time?
I know IKEA usually provides a standard load capacity, but how does this hold up in real life? Are there any users with long-term experience using Brimnes drawers under heavy loads?
I look forward to detailed feedback, maybe also some suggestions for alternatives if Brimnes is not suitable for this purpose.

For clear reference: IKEA specifies a maximum load capacity of 15 kg (33 lbs) per Brimnes drawer, based on the materials used and the design.
This specification is based on standardized load tests according to DIN standards (often internal tests at IKEA).
It is important to note:
- The load should ideally be evenly distributed.
- Continuous loads close to the stated maximum values can cause material fatigue, especially to the sliding mechanism.
For occasional storage of heavy items such as tools for a short period, the Brimnes drawer should be suitable; however, it is not designed for permanent, long-term heavy-duty use.
If permanent, higher loads are expected, furniture or interior fittings with reinforced drawers specifically designed for this purpose are recommended.

Load with books and electronics, about 12 kg (26 lbs) per drawer. No sagging, no deformation. That sounds great! I’ve also stored heavy items in Brimnes drawers for several months and have to say, "no complaints." But of course: don’t overdo it, or the furniture will give in. For everyday “heavyweights,” I think Brimnes is perfect! 😎

Are there any users here who have experience with the long-term durability of the Brimnes drawers, especially under heavy loads?I can understand why you’re concerned. Furniture that we use daily also has emotional value. I had similar worries at first because I planned to store some heavy photography equipment in them. After two years, I can say that despite the load, there hasn’t been any major damage; just a little adjustment of the drawer slides was needed. My advice: don’t get discouraged if something sticks once in a while—most issues can be fixed.

a bit of adjustment to the rails was necessary.Absolutely. Furniture maintenance is also something to consider. I’ve made it a habit to regularly check the drawers and apply a little WD-40 or furniture wax. It works great and extends their lifespan.
No worries, the Brimnes is designed for everyday use, as long as you don’t overload it.
