Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install several IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets with glass fronts and am looking for well-founded tips and advice on this specific setup.

I’m not only interested in the basic assembly of the Metod carcasses but especially in the handling and mounting of the glass fronts, since I have mostly installed doors made of wood or plastic before and the particularities of glass fronts are not yet entirely clear to me.

Which tools and materials should definitely be on hand? How can the glass fronts be installed safely and properly without risking damage? Are there any special precautions compared to regular doors?

I am also curious whether the installation of the glass fronts on Metod cabinets affects the adjustment of the door hinges, and if there is anything to consider in order to align the doors neatly afterward.

Who has experience with these glass fronts and can provide detailed advice that goes beyond the instructions? Many thanks in advance for your support!

Hello Rideo50,

Your request is clearly described, which makes it easier to provide support. Regarding your question: The construction of the IKEA Metod cabinets with glass fronts mainly differs in the door installation, as the glass fronts are more delicate and need to be handled with extra care.

From my experience, the following points are especially important:
- Tools: A cordless drill with torque control is ideal to avoid overtightening the screws.
- Protection: It is best to wear gloves and cover the glass surfaces well to prevent scratches.
- Attachment: The glass fronts are usually mounted onto an inner panel using special clips or brackets. Make sure to attach these correctly and securely to avoid unnecessary movement.
- Adjustment: The hinges on Metod doors are adjustable in three directions (height, lateral, depth), allowing you to precisely align the glass fronts afterward.

Important: Always check that the seals or rubber elements are correctly positioned. This prevents rattling noises later on and protects the glass.

If you need a more detailed guide on accessing the Metod glass fronts, I can provide a step-by-step description. Just let me know!

Hello Rideo50,

I’m happy to add some details, as glass fronts for Metod cabinets are a more demanding task, especially concerning installation and safety:

- First, you should check whether the glass fronts are explicitly described in the IKEA instructions, as there are sometimes differences between various models (e.g., slightly tinted glass, safety glass).
- Now regarding the installation: the glass fronts usually do not rest directly on the hinges but are connected using a carrier element. This carrier profile must be screwed to the cabinet carcass first.
- Then comes the glass panel: it is either clamped with screws or fixed using mounted holders – it is important to have an even distribution of forces here to avoid stresses in the glass.

It is crucial that you do not apply lateral or excessive pressure on the glass, as this can cause stress cracks. Additionally, I recommend cross-checking the screw tension during tightening and avoiding overtightening diagonally.

The hinges of the Metod series have adjustment options in all spatial directions, allowing you to align the door perfectly and ensure an even gap between doors. After hanging, always check multiple times and adjust if necessary.

One more question: Are you using the glass fronts for wall cabinets, base cabinets, or tall cabinets? The positioning and load can vary depending on the location, which affects aspects such as additional reinforcements or extra supports.

I have a quick question: Are you using the glass fronts for wall cabinets, base cabinets, or tall cabinets?

Thank you for the detailed information, Filippo, that is very helpful. To answer your question: I mainly use the glass fronts on wall cabinets. These are intended to be installed in the kitchen area above a countertop. The cabinets are each 60cm (24 inches) wide and about 80cm (31.5 inches) high.

I am also considering equipping the doors with LED lighting behind the glass fronts, which might make the installation more challenging.

If anyone has experience with integrating or routing LEDs discreetly along such glass panels, I would appreciate any advice!

Hello Rideo50,

Glass fronts on wall cabinets do require a bit more care. The cabinets are more heavily stressed due to the weight of the glass fronts and their installation location. Therefore, make sure that the wall mounting of the IKEA Metod cabinet frame is absolutely secure, ideally using anchors that are suitable for the type of wall (e.g., concrete, drywall).

Regarding your LEDs: Most customers use LED strips mounted inside at the top of the cabinet frame. When doing this, you should:
- Ensure sufficient distance from the glass front so that the wiring is not visible.
- Route cables and connectors carefully to avoid interfering with the door mechanism.
- Have a power source nearby and consider whether you want to place the control (switch/touch) inside or outside.

For installing the glass front:
- Use the original IKEA glass front fasteners, as they are specifically designed for the Metod screws.
- Screw them in loosely at first, then align the front before tightening everything securely.

Also, be careful not to overtighten the door hinges; glass is less forgiving than wooden fronts and could be damaged if tightened too much.

For added safety, you can also stick thin felt strips to the areas of the glass front that touch the cabinet frame. This cushions small movements and prevents rattling noises.

Hey, that sounds great! LEDs behind glass panels create a very stylish effect. A quick tip from my experience:

- Use warm light colors; it creates a cozier atmosphere in the kitchen.
- When installing LED strips, make sure they aren’t too long—better to have several shorter runs than one long strip to avoid voltage drop issues.
- Attach the LEDs using double-sided tape or special clips. For glass panels, this works well since you don’t need to stick anything directly on the glass, but can fix it inside the cabinet.

A little fun advice: Treat your glass panels like a treasure during installation—ask me how many times I’ve startled myself when something dropped 😂.

Anyway, take your time and preferably have a second person to hand you the parts, it really helps. Good luck!
