Hello everyone, I am planning to move soon and own several IKEA Platsa units that I want to pack as safely and securely as possible to prevent any damage during transport.

My question: Are there any proven tips or methods for dismantling and packing the IKEA Platsa wardrobe system for a move? I am especially interested in how to protect the often quite delicate furniture parts, such as back panels and shelves, while keeping the packaging as compact as possible.

Maybe someone has experience dismantling this system or clever packing solutions that save space yet prevent damage. Thanks in advance for any advice!

It is best to completely disassemble the PLATSA. Protect the back panels with bubble wrap, stack the shelves immediately, and store them temporarily. Pack screws in labeled bags. This way, you avoid damage and prevent losing anything.

In addition to the general recommendations:
- Back panels are often made of thin material; it is best to pack them loosely and avoid placing heavy items on top.
- Sort shelves by size and store them separately between boxes filled with soft materials like blankets to prevent pressure marks.
- Use sturdy moving boxes instead of garbage bags to protect the furniture parts from moisture and impact damage.
- Always secure screws in their respective compartments to make reassembly easier.

Hey, PLATSA is basically Ikea’s masterpiece when it comes to disassembly, right? 😉 The important thing is not just packing, but staying relaxed. I once packed back panels in very thick boxes that I padded with old towels. Everything survived the move perfectly, no scratches. And I wrapped shelves in stretch film so they wouldn’t slide around.

It might sound a bit complicated, but waking up on moving day with no damaged furniture is priceless.

Thanks, that’s a good point. Have you had any experience with whether it’s better to completely remove and pack the back panels separately, or do you usually leave them in the frame and then pad the whole piece extensively? I’m worried they might break if they stay attached to the furniture.

Also, I’m wondering what condition the furniture should ideally be transported in – is it better to fully disassemble each piece or partially assembled with padded protection? Depending on that, packing efficiency might be affected.

Basically, I recommend fully disassembling IKEA PLATSA, especially the back panels. These are brittle and tend to break under stress during transportation.

If you remove the back panels, the components can be stacked more securely and placed between soft materials.

Parts should only remain in the frame structure if you handle them very carefully with thick padding and ensure the furniture does not tilt or get compressed during transport.

Try to collect all screws and fasteners in labeled bags attached directly to the respective furniture pieces. This will make reassembly easier after the move.
