Hello everyone, I’m currently facing the challenge of assembling an IKEA Platsa wardrobe as efficiently as possible, even though I’m left-handed. The instructions and most tools seem to be designed primarily for right-handed users, which often leads to awkward movements or makes handling more difficult. I’m especially interested in any tips on how to intentionally adapt the assembly process to make it more ergonomic and time-saving for left-handed people. Are there tricks like installing door hinges, handles, or door swings the other way around? Maybe a method that makes handling screws and tools easier or that left-handed users should prefer when assembling frequently? How do you left-handed people approach building PLATSA wardrobes specifically to avoid unnecessary frustration and mistakes? Looking forward to your experiences and advice!

Hey! That’s an interesting question 😊 I’m right-handed myself, but I often help my sister who is left-handed. Here are my tips: - Just flip the assembly instructions in front of you, so the hand movements feel more natural! - Tools: screwdrivers with double-ended handles are great, so you don’t have to keep switching hands. - Door hinges can usually be freely chosen with PLATSA, meaning you can install the doors so the hinges face your preferred side. This makes opening and closing much more comfortable. Important: Take your time and don’t tense up! The cabinet will turn out great 😊

The construction of the IKEA PLATSA cabinet is basically symmetrical. For left-handed users, the following is recommended: - Mirror the assembly instructions or mentally reverse the individual steps beforehand to better adapt the sequence of actions. - When installing the doors, pay attention to which side requires hinges; usually, the door hinge side is adjustable, which is advantageous. - Use tools designed with left-handed ergonomics, such as cordless drills with easily accessible direction switches. - Pay special attention to hand positioning when inserting dowels and connector fittings; a slightly adjusted body posture can improve force application. These adjustments help reduce assembly time and fatigue.

Install door hinges the other way around. Read the instructions in reverse. Choose tools that work on both sides. This way, the cabinet is finished quickly.

Absolutely, that was a huge advantage for my sister! She also played the instructions on the cassette player and basically created a mirrored version of the manual that way.

That works great, as long as you make sure the doors are not installed upside down. The option to choose the hinge side freely is definitely a big plus with PLATSA! So always start by positioning the doors without fixing them, and see which way is easiest for your own hand.

Additionally, I recommend building on a stable surface at table height. This way, you won’t strain yourself and can position the parts more easily. Also: unscrew screws counterclockwise and tighten them clockwise with a cordless drill – the same principle as for right-handed users, just using the other hand. When tools are adjusted, especially for torque, many tasks become easier.
