Hello everyone,

I am planning to install IKEA Metod wall cabinets in my attic apartment. I have a question regarding the best way to install these wall cabinets when the wall has a sloped ceiling. In my case, the slope is about 45 degrees, and I want to mount the cabinets so that they are stable and the cabinet fronts align as closely as possible with the main room axis.

Does anyone have experience mounting Metod wall cabinets on a sloped ceiling? What installation options are available, which components or additional solutions are recommended, and what adjustments are needed for the fastenings?

I look forward to any tips, preferably including advice on proper wall fixing or additional supporting structures.

Thank you!

In principle, it is possible to install IKEA Metod wall cabinets on a sloped ceiling, but it requires some preparation and careful planning.

First, you should check how to best mount the hanging rails, as they are usually designed for flat walls. On the slope, you can either:
- create a straight suspension from the upper hanging rail with adjustments,
- or attach an additional wooden substructure (e.g., a batten or OSB board) to the sloped ceiling to serve as a flat mounting surface.

It is important not to exceed the maximum load capacity. For any mounting on the slope, be sure to choose the appropriate type of fasteners — use anchors and screws suitable for brick or concrete, and appropriate wood screws for timber studs.

If you don’t want to hang the cabinets exactly parallel to the slope, you can also use metal angle brackets to tilt the cabinets out from the slope. However, these require precise cutting.

What does your room look like? Are the walls stable and what is the wall structure? This information helps to recommend specific mounting solutions.

Basically, installing IKEA Metod wall cabinets on a sloped ceiling is possible, but it requires some preparation and careful planning.

To add to that: using a substructure is usually the most practical solution.

I recommend mounting a sturdy, flat wooden panel (at least 12 mm (0.5 inches) thick, for example multiplex plywood or OSB) onto the slope. The Metod wall cabinets can then be attached to this panel as if it were a regular flat wall.

Make sure the panel is stable enough and securely fastened to safely bear loads and vibrations. Attaching it to rafters or load-bearing beams is ideal.

Additionally, you should align the cabinets before installation and check them with a spirit level so that the doors close properly later on.

To add to the previous comments: The Metod cabinet frames have fixed mounting holes designed for a vertical wall. When installing on a slope, an angle adapter is usually needed to align the cabinet carcass vertically.

A common approach is as follows:

- Install a flat substructure made of timber battens or panel material on the slope,
- Level the substructure using a spirit level,
- Attach the mounting rails supplied with Metod to the substructure,
- Then mount the wall cabinets as usual.

The result is straight, functional cabinets that look good and are adapted to the slope.

Also, make sure to use appropriate anchors depending on the wall type. Plywood or drywall panels require special solutions.

Screw the wooden panel substructure to the slope, then attach the Metod mounting rails to it. Align the doors using a spirit level. This method provides the best stability.

I would make sure to use strong anchors and possibly angle brackets to pull the cabinet away from the sloped wall. Otherwise, there could be issues with the doors.
