Hello everyone, I just tried to assemble an Ikea Hemnes furniture piece and found that some of the screws are either completely missing or don’t fit into the designated holes. The instructions are detailed, but without the correct screws, I can’t proceed.

My question is: what do you do if screws are missing or the wrong size in an Ikea Hemnes set? Is there an official way to get replacement parts, or do you have to come up with your own solutions?

I would like to avoid returning the furniture or ordering a new set, but as it is, that’s not possible. I’m also interested to know if there are common issues with Hemnes screws that people should be aware of, and if you have any special tips for situations like this.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I know that feeling all too well – it’s frustrating when you’re excited to assemble a piece of furniture and then run into problems like that. I usually feel a mix of disappointment and anxiety because all I want is a relaxing afternoon.

In such cases, I’ve always tried to order replacement parts directly from Ikea first. Most stores offer this service, and they often send the missing screws free of charge. You might have to be patient, but it’s usually worth it.

If you’re in a hurry or the particular screw is no longer available, I’ve sometimes looked for similar replacement parts at hardware stores. It’s not ideal, but with standard sizes, it’s often doable. Just be sure to measure carefully to avoid any stability issues, since the HEMNES series isn’t exactly lightweight.

What about you? Have you had similar experiences you’d like to share? It’s often helpful to know you’re not alone with this problem.

Also, I’m curious if there are generally typical problems with HEMNES screws that you should watch out for, and if you have any special tips for such situations.

Good morning! To provide some immediate assistance, I’ve organized the topic a bit:

- First of all: Missing screws in Ikea HEMNES assembly kits are unfortunately not uncommon. This is partly because Ikea often produces the parts centrally, but different batches can vary slightly.

- My tip number 1: Always carefully check all screws and fittings against the parts list in the instructions before you start assembly. This way you can spot any missing items early on.

- If you have already noticed that screws don’t fit, carefully compare their dimensions with those in the manual (exact lengths and diameters are often specified). Some users, for example, confuse threaded screws with smooth ones.

- Ordering replacement parts from Ikea: You can either contact customer service or order replacements directly at the store. Important here: Try to note the exact designation or article number of the screw to avoid confusing it with similar screws.

- In case Ikea cannot provide replacements quickly, I recommend buying screws from a hardware store that have exactly the same thread and length. Be sure to pay attention to material quality to ensure the stability of the furniture.

- One more note: Screws that don’t fit can also indicate that a screw is being used in the wrong position during assembly. Sometimes a screw is used for a different hole. When you follow the instructions step by step exactly, this usually becomes apparent.

Summary:
- Check completeness carefully before starting assembly
- Compare measurements if there are problems
- Request replacement parts from Ikea
- In emergency, get matching replacement screws from a hardware store
- Follow the instructions closely to use the correct screws

I hope this helps you and others who might face this kind of problem!

Absolutely, that’s definitely the best approach if you still have a warranty or service coverage! Ikea is actually quite customer-friendly 🤩

What I always do in situations like this is take photos of the original box and contents right away when I suspect something’s missing. That gives you solid evidence when dealing with customer service.

And one more thing: if you make a mistake during assembly and the screws don’t fit, don’t lose patience! Sometimes it’s small details that make the difference (for example, parts rotated by 90 degrees or shifted drill holes). I speak from experience, as I once spent almost two hours struggling with a cabinet. But don’t get discouraged — in the end, you’ll be even happier with your great work!

So: stay calm, request replacements, compare carefully — and everything will turn out fine 😄👍
