Hello everyone,

I would like to ask a more in-depth question about furniture assembly, specifically regarding the Ikea Brimnes system: Are there common assembly issues with Ikea Brimnes that can occur during planning, preparation, or the actual construction?

I have noticed that Ikea instructions are often considered a standard, but with Brimnes there seem to be occasional problems with fit and stability. I am especially interested to know if others can confirm this, how often these issues occur, whether certain components are particularly prone to errors, or if the instructions remain unclear.

Who has concrete experience? Tips or tricks that make assembly easier are also very welcome. Many thanks in advance to everyone who shares their knowledge!

Hey Gokin61,

I’ve assembled the Brimnes twice now and have to say: there are definitely some minor challenges, especially with the drawers and the back panels. The back panel can be a bit stubborn because it’s not perfectly sized—it seems like the material is slightly undersized. Because of that, I had to be careful to avoid breaking anything. 😅

The instructions are okay, but you definitely need some patience, especially if you’re reasonably handy. What helps is to loosely fit everything together first, and only then tighten all the screws. Otherwise, nothing lines up properly at the end.

So yes, assembly issues do come up—but really nothing you can’t handle calmly with a bit of extra screwdriver. 😊

Assembly issues with Brimnes? Mainly:
- Drawers sometimes operate stiffly
- Back panel can be difficult to fit
- Screws sometimes don’t sit perfectly

The manual is standard, nothing major. Anyone who works carefully will manage fine.

I completely understand your observation. When I was assembling the Brimnes, I had a really uneasy feeling because some parts didn’t fit together smoothly. That was quite frustrating since you expect a product from such a big manufacturer to at least fit properly.

That’s exactly what helped me too! The feeling when you tighten screws fully right away and then realize something is wrong is really frustrating.

So it definitely makes sense not to just blindly follow the instructions, but to think things through. Have any of you experienced missing parts? Luckily, that hasn’t happened to me, but I guess it’s part of the fun of assembling furniture.

Brief summary:
- The back panel of Brimnes is often difficult to install.
- Drawers are not always easy to assemble.
- Patience and careful fitting are important.

I have not encountered any missing parts.

I find it interesting how assembly problems are generally discussed here without going into the specific causes. The question is whether the issues actually stem from the design of the Brimnes itself, or if they are related to Ikea’s quality control.

For example, the problems with the back panel could indeed be due to production variations. I see this critically because if such issues occur systematically, it is clearly a quality problem rather than an isolated case.

It would also be interesting to know if some users might unknowingly be using the wrong tools or skipping steps in the instructions, which could lead to apparent fitting problems.

This could also be due to low-quality runners, not just assembly. So my question is: How old is your furniture, and has any adjustment ever been made?

Overall, I would like to hear more specific cases – I haven’t had any problems myself but am following the discussion closely.
