Good morning everyone, I have a specific question about Ikea wardrobes, more precisely about the Pax sliding and hinged doors: Does Ikea offer doors for the Pax system that already have integrated soft-closing mechanisms? I’m asking because with my current wardrobe, the doors often slam shut quite loudly, which is especially annoying early in the morning or in the evening. I know there are dampers and soft-close systems available for different types of furniture, but are these already installed factory-fitted on the Pax doors, or do they need to be added afterwards? If anyone has experience or even knows the exact product names, I would really appreciate a detailed response, including information on the various door types (mirror doors, wood, glass, etc.). Thanks in advance!

Hello, no, Ikea does not supply the Pax doors with built-in soft-close mechanisms by default. If you want a soft-close feature, you need to retrofit separate door dampers, which are easy to install. These are also available directly from Ikea as accessories. You just need to search for "Pax door hinges with dampers."

Hello plofra, your question about the integrated dampers in Ikea Pax doors is completely reasonable, as this feature often contributes to a more comfortable living experience. To explain in more detail: currently, there are no Ikea doors for the Pax system that come with built-in soft-close damping. The reasons are likely related to manufacturing processes and the modular design of the system.

The common method to achieve a gentle closing function is to retrofit special dampers, which are either attached to the door hinges or installed as separate components. Ikea offers various solutions under the term "Pax door dampers," compatible with all types of doors. However, please note that installation may differ depending on the door type (for example, mirrored door versus wood door) and is explained in detail in the instructions.

If you have already assembled a door, I recommend testing the Pax dampers afterwards, as many customers report a significant reduction in noise. Please let me know exactly which doors you have, and I can assist you further!

I agree with this, but I think the statement can sometimes be misleading. While Ikea does not offer an option with integrated dampers, there are very well-compatible third-party products that can be nearly invisibly integrated into the system. The advantage here is that you remain flexible and are not limited to preset designs.

It would also be interesting to know if retrofitting dampers to the larger Pax wardrobe doors (those over 50cm (20 inches) wide) might cause any mechanical issues. If anyone has practical experience with this, that would be very valuable. I often wonder if Ikea has set a limit regarding load and durability on the original hinges in these cases.

Hello plofra, I’d like to add some additional information. In fact, Ikea does not offer doors with integrated soft-closing mechanisms within the Pax range. This might seem like a disadvantage at first, but the dampers that Ikea sells as accessories are quite easy to install and work reliably.

In my experience, it’s worth spending some time on the precise installation of the dampers, as this ensures optimal soft-closing function and avoids unnecessary stress on the hinges. Also, if you have mirrored doors, I recommend being careful during installation, since the glass on the doors is sensitive and shouldn’t be altered.

If you like, I can send you a step-by-step guide on how to properly attach the dampers. Many here have managed to make their cabinet doors close silently this way and are very satisfied.
