Hello everyone, I have some Malm furniture from IKEA at home and would like to know how to care for it with as little effort as possible. My main concerns are keeping it clean, preventing or fixing minor scratches, and protecting the material for long-term durability. I am looking for a simple maintenance routine or tips that are easy to follow in everyday life, without requiring too much time or special products. Does anyone have experience with this or can offer good advice on how to maintain MALM furniture effectively and with minimal upkeep?

It is best to use a slightly damp microfiber cloth for cleaning. Avoid harsh cleaners; only mild dish soap if necessary. For scratches, furniture wax or a special repair pen can help.

Hello galala, I’d like to provide you with a simple guide for the easy maintenance of your MALM furniture.

First, it is important to regularly remove dust from the surface. The best way to do this is with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth. Please avoid using abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the painted or laminated surface.

For cleaning stains, you can use mild soapy water: dissolve a small amount of dish soap in water, wring out the cloth thoroughly, gently wipe the surface, and immediately follow up with a dry cloth. Avoid wiping with excessive moisture, as standing water can cause damage.

Scratches can be minimized with a furniture touch-up marker that matches the color, usually available at hardware stores. It is important to match the color exactly to your furniture and use the marker sparingly.

Additionally, furniture wax can help protect the surface. Make sure to use wax specifically designed for painted surfaces only.

In summary, maintenance means regular dusting, gentle damp cleaning, careful handling of scratches, and touching up minor damages with markers or wax as needed. This way, your MALM furniture will stay beautiful for a long time!

This is brilliant! 🙂 I always just wiped my MALM dresser dry – now I know that using some mild dishwashing water is good for the furniture when it gets dirty!

It’s also important not to clean too aggressively, otherwise the surface can get damaged.

If you have small scratches, you should definitely try a repair marker – it really makes a difference and is super easy to use!

Thanks to these tips, I was able to restore my furniture quickly without much effort – give it a try, you can do it too! :-)
