Hello everyone, I have noticed that assembling Brimnes furniture from Ikea can sometimes cause problems, especially for those who are not very experienced with furniture assembly. My question is: are there common or frequent mistakes that occur when putting together Brimnes furniture? I’m not just referring to obvious errors, but also smaller pitfalls that are often overlooked or done incorrectly, particularly when constructing the drawers, connecting the frames, or attaching the back panels. Are there any tips on how to best avoid these issues or key points to pay special attention to? I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

A common mistake when assembling the Brimnes is tightening the screws too loosely or too tightly. This can later cause instability or damaged parts. Additionally, the back panel should always be installed last.

In addition to the screw issues, the correct alignment of the parts is crucial. Drawer slides, in particular, require precise installation; otherwise, the drawers may stick or run unevenly. The instructions are usually clear, but it is important to follow the assembly steps in the exact order to avoid mistakes later on.

There are several points in assembling the Brimnes series that often cause difficulties:

- First, you should check all parts against the packing list before starting to avoid missing pieces.
- One of the biggest sources of error is mixing up similar wooden parts, which affects the fit and often only becomes apparent late in the process.
- When screwing the side panels onto the back panel, it is advisable not to tighten the screws completely at first but only to start them. This allows for small adjustments if something doesn’t fit exactly.
- Inserting the drawer slides and aligning the drawers is often a tricky part. Here, a delicate touch is required to prevent any sticking.
- Finally, you should check if the furniture piece stands level on the floor, as uneven surfaces can quickly cause the furniture to warp.

How did you follow the instructions and which parts did you find difficult? I am also interested to know if you used any special tools.

Thank you for the detailed response. I only used standard tools (Phillips screwdriver, hammer). No special power tools were involved. I followed the instructions step by step, but I found some assembly steps, especially for the drawers, not entirely clear. I will make sure to sort the parts beforehand next time, that sounds like a good idea.

From my experience, the most common mistakes when assembling Brimnes furniture are:

- Over-tightening screws, which can cause the wooden parts to swell.
- Installing the back panel too early or improperly, making it difficult to align the furniture correctly.
- Confusing similar screws and dowels, which compromises stability.

I recommend carefully studying the materials list and following each step diligently. Pre-drilling or gently starting the screws can also help prevent damage to the wood.
