sanjayHello everyone, I am currently planning to assemble the Ikea Brimnes chest of drawers and have found that assembling the drawers is somewhat complicated for me, especially the drawer slides and the installation of the drawer fronts are not going smoothly. Therefore, I would be interested to know if you have any special tips or tricks to make assembling the Ikea Brimnes drawers easier and faster. I am particularly looking for advice regarding the drawer slides, the correct way to insert the drawers, and any helpful tools or steps that have proven effective. I have already studied the instructions carefully, but maybe there are things that are not very clear in the manual or are recommended by experienced users. Thank you in advance for your suggestions!
I’m happy to share a few tips that will hopefully help you:
- Step 1: Preparing the guide rails: Make sure all screws on the guide rails are properly in place but not fully tightened yet, so you can still adjust the position.
- Step 2: Assembling the drawers: Avoid fully securing the drawer front right away. Screw it in loosely so you can make small adjustments later when fitting the drawer.
- Step 3: Inserting the drawers: When sliding the drawers in, gently push upward and check that the rails click into place properly. If it sticks, it’s better to double-check than to use excessive force.
- Tip: Before starting assembly, check that no wood chips or foreign objects are blocking the rails.
In summary: Patience and controlled movements make a big difference when inserting the drawers. Loosely fastening parts initially allows for better adjustments before everything is fully tightened.

Avoid fully fixing the drawer front right away. Simply screw it in loosely so you can make small adjustments when fitting it later.I completely agree with that. I’m always surprised at how many people blindly follow the instructions without taking the time to understand furniture assembly as a process. These drawers from Ikea aren’t exactly masterpieces of engineering, so a bit of care and finesse is needed during assembly.
Additionally, I think it’s important to be very gentle with the load on the Brimnes drawer slides – I’ve often seen them break or warp when too much force is applied. My general advice is to leave the screws loose, align everything properly, test the fit, and only then tighten all screws firmly. This saves frustration and prevents the need for returns later on.

Always fully install the rails on the cabinet before building the drawers.I would like to strongly agree with this advice.
Additionally, I recommend applying a thin layer of oil or wax to the metal slides to ensure smoother movement and easier opening of the drawers – be sure to use a lubricant that is non-sticky and leaves no residue on the wood.
It also makes sense not to tighten the screws on the drawer fronts too much. As the material settles over time, overly tight screws can cause surface cracks or warping.
Finally, assembling the Brimnes drawers requires a steady hand and some patience. Rushing often leads to mistakes.
