Hello everyone, some time ago I bought several Ikea Hemnes furniture pieces, mainly dressers and nightstands made of solid pine. Since we are currently in the cold winter season, I’m thinking about the best way to care for these pieces to prevent damage such as cracks or warping caused by dry heating air.

Specifically, I would like to know which care products are suitable, how often I should treat the furniture, whether it’s okay to wipe them damp occasionally, and how to ideally control the room humidity to preserve the wood quality as best as possible.

Has anyone had experience with Ikea Hemnes furniture regarding winter care? Are there any special tips or do’s and don’ts I should follow to maintain the appearance and stability of the furniture over time? Thanks in advance for your insights!

Here’s an additional tip: Not only is humidity important, but regular ventilation also helps prevent trapped moisture and temperature fluctuations.

This protects the wood and ensures a balanced indoor climate.

Absolutely, proper shock ventilation is indeed crucial for wooden furniture. Briefly airing the room thoroughly, then avoiding turning the heating up too high immediately afterward, as this can cause the air to dry out too quickly.

In addition, furniture should not be placed directly in front of windows where drafts can occur, as this can cause localized drying of the wood.

Briefly summarized:

- Do not use wet cloths
- Avoid harsh cleaning agents
- Maintain humidity between 40-60%
- Avoid hot radiators
- Dust regularly

This is how Ikea Hemnes furniture stays fresh throughout the winter.

I used to work a lot with furniture made of pine. It is important: with lacquered furniture, avoid using care products too often, as this can change the gloss.

A dust cloth and occasional cleaning are usually sufficient.

And yes, humidifiers are invaluable during the winter months.

To conclude my remarks, I would also suggest using special care products designed for lacquered wooden furniture on any visible small scratches or dull spots.

Please also share if you experience strong temperature fluctuations in your area or if the furniture is placed in challenging locations, such as opposite doors or heating units, so I can offer more targeted advice.
