Hello everyone, I’m currently planning to redesign my bedroom, and the central piece will be an IKEA PAX wardrobe system. My main question is: which IKEA furniture pieces work best alongside a PAX system to ensure storage, functionality, and visual harmony? I’m particularly interested in which shelving units, drawer options, or dressers can be sensibly combined without making the overall look too cluttered. It would also be helpful to know if there are any recommendations regarding color combinations or materials to make sure everything fits well together. Looking forward to your experiences and tips!

Hey, great question! I personally love combining my PAX wardrobe with the KOMPLEMENT interior organizers. These drawers and dividers fit perfectly inside and help keep everything really tidy! For the outside, I often use the Malm dressers, which match the PAX color really well and provide extra storage without overwhelming the space. I also like to complement these with the KALLAX shelves – you can use baskets there, which is practical and looks nice. Definitely pay attention to the fronts; it’s best to keep them in the same color tone. Just give it a try and don’t get discouraged, you’ll manage it!

Very good consideration! To add a bit more technical detail: The PAX series is very modular in design. KOMPLEMENT inserts fit almost perfectly, especially the soft-close drawers and pull-out shelves. If you want to add dressers, I recommend the MALM line, as its dimensions match well with the PAX depth of 58 cm (23 inches), avoiding awkward overhangs. The KALLAX shelves are shallower at 39 cm (15 inches), so they are better suited for open storage areas rather than direct expansion of the wardrobe structure. It is also important to know whether you prefer closed or open storage solutions and what your room layout looks like. Regarding materials, matte or high-gloss fronts both work well depending on your preference, although high-gloss shows less dust but is more prone to scratches.

Honestly, I think this question can’t be answered concretely because everyone creates a very personal furniture environment with PAX, and you always have to accept some style clashes unless you want a completely uniform look.

I would even provocatively argue that many people underestimate how difficult it is to complement PAX effectively without it ending up looking like a furniture factory. The temptation to use other pieces is strong, but these often differ significantly in color, style, or material. For me, it’s less about storage and more about having the courage to go for consistency or purposeful contrasts. Why not consider other manufacturers if you’re already starting with PAX?

I’m not saying it’s impossible to combine, but a lack of understanding or sensitivity for style and space can quickly lead to a patchwork appearance. Who dares to think differently here?

It depends on the color choice. White or anthracite offer many combination options at IKEA. MALM dressers go well with PAX in the same color. For open areas, I recommend BESTÅ or KALLAX as additions. The materials are similar and create a harmonious overall look.
