Hello everyone, I recently assembled a kitchen using IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets and noticed that the noise level when opening and closing the cabinets and drawers is quite high. In particular, the rattling and rubbing sounds from the hinges and drawer slides are quite bothersome. My question is: How can I specifically minimize or significantly reduce the noise in IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets? It would be great if you could share tips on the most effective measures, whether there are special dampers or lubricants you recommend, or if I should adjust the mounting points to reduce the unwanted noise. Thanks in advance!

Hey cihansin43, the topic of noise reduction in IKEA Metod kitchens is definitely an art in itself! 😄 But don’t worry, it often comes down to a few small adjustments you can make. I recommend first tweaking the hinges a bit—some of them can be adjusted to close more softly. I also really rely on the small rubber or silicone buffers you can attach to the edges to soften the closing noises.

I’ve experienced exactly the same. Lubricants like silicone-based sprays can also work wonders—sprayed on the slides, the drawers glide much more quietly. But be careful: oil-based products can attract dust, which is counterproductive. Just give it a try, especially with silicone. Good luck!

To minimize noise in IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets, I recommend the following structured approach:

- First, check that all screws on hinges and slides are tightly secured to prevent wobbling.
- Use silicone spray or Teflon spray specifically designed for furniture on drawer slides and hinges to reduce friction and thereby noise.
- Install dampers offered by IKEA or third-party suppliers for Metod models. These dampers prevent doors and drawers from slamming shut.
- For drawers, adjusting the runners can help reduce contact points.

I recommend you first adjust the hinges slightly – some can be set to close more gently.

This adjustment is essential and should be checked systematically.

Ideally, combine mechanical damping with lubricants to effectively address both rattling and friction.

Hello cihansin43 and all interested,

I would like to provide a brief summary and guide on how to best reduce noise in IKEA Metod kitchens:

1. Check the fastenings: Often, screws are not fully tightened, which already causes rattling. So first, tighten all screws on hinges and drawer slides.

2. Adjust the hinges: Metod hinges have adjustment options for height, depth, and lateral offset. Using a suitable screwdriver, you can adjust the door so it closes evenly and softly.

3. Use dampers: IKEA offers "soft-close" dampers for Metod. If your furniture does not have these, it is worth retrofitting. They allow doors and drawers to close smoothly and quietly.

4. Use lubricants correctly: A silicone-based spray on rails and hinges reduces friction noise. It is important not to use oil because it attracts dirt.

5. Attach rubber bumpers: Thin rubber bumpers at the point where doors meet the cabinet help dampen closing and prevent hard impacts.

6. Check the drawer slides: Make sure the rails are not bent or dirty. Sometimes readjusting or replacing the slides helps.

With these steps, noise from Metod furniture can be significantly reduced without much effort. If you have specific questions about any of the steps, I am happy to help!
