Good morning everyone, I am currently planning to assemble an Ikea Metod kitchen unit, and I want to focus especially on having noise-reducing drawers. My question is: what is the best way to build this kitchen unit to ensure the drawers open and close as quietly as possible?

I’m interested in all relevant details, from the assembly steps to the choice of suitable drawer slides, as well as tips for adjustment and maintenance to minimize noise. Are there any accessories or special settings to consider specifically for the Metod cabinets?

I already have basic experience with furniture assembly but want to avoid common mistakes that can cause misaligned or rattling drawers. Thanks in advance for your advice!

For quiet installation of the Ikea Metod drawers, I generally recommend the following approach:

- Use the original Ikea soft-close drawer runners, as these are optimized for the Metod cabinet frame and include damping elements.
- Ensure precise alignment and secure screwing of the cabinet frames to prevent any movement or vibration.
- Adjust the drawer fronts according to Ikea’s instructions to avoid friction against the side panels.
- After assembly, all moving parts should operate smoothly; if necessary, a silicone spray can be applied to the runners to reduce noise.

Make sure not to use third-party components, as these often do not fit precisely and can cause noise.

It is also important to ensure that the base is level during assembly. Even slight unevenness can cause the drawers to not close properly, which may result in noise.

I also recommend installing all drawer slides without load before the final assembly and checking several times to ensure that the soft-close system engages correctly. Sometimes, small adjustments to the slides are necessary to achieve optimal damping.

Make sure to tighten screws only by hand. Over-tightening can warp the guide, which causes noise.

Also, dust or wood chips in the guides should be removed before installation.

That sounds logical, but I wonder how exactly this "precise alignment" can be achieved if the room is not perfectly square. From my experience, even minor wall irregularities make installation difficult and can cause the soft-close system to function poorly.

Are there any recommendations on how to best adjust or compensate the carcasses in such cases without compromising stability?

Regarding uneven surfaces: To properly align cabinets despite slight tilting, adjustable furniture feet can be used, such as those offered by Ikea for the Metod series. These allow height adjustments of up to several centimeters (inches).

Alternatively, spacer plates or wedges can be used to secure the cabinet corners. It is always important that the cabinet stands firmly afterward and that the drawer fronts are well aligned.

I would avoid mounting with double-sided tape, as this limits the necessary stability.
