Hello everyone,

I recently tried assembling the IKEA Brimnes furniture and noticed several issues that I believe commonly occur during assembly. I am particularly interested in which typical pitfalls to watch out for right from unpacking through to the actual build. What mistakes do you repeatedly encounter, whether due to unclear instructions, incorrectly placed screws, or other traps that often appear with the Brimnes series? It would be great if you could share your experiences with specific examples—this might help avoid common errors.

I’m especially looking for a discussion that stays practical and detailed rather than too general, ideally offering tips for a smooth assembly process.

Thank you in advance!

A common mistake when assembling the IKEA Brimnes system involves the alignment of individual furniture parts. In particular, the side panels are often not installed at a perfect right angle. This later causes issues when inserting the drawers or doors.

- It is important to loosely fix all parts in place before tightening the screws and to check the fit carefully.
- Another frequent error is mixing up the types of screws, as different sizes and lengths can look very similar.
- The attachment of the back panel is also often underestimated; inaccurate or crooked installation can reduce stability.

My advice: Always read the instructions carefully, step by step, and if in doubt, double-check rather than forcing the screws. This way, common assembly mistakes can be avoided and rework saved.

I fully agree with this and would like to add that the lack of the proper tools is often underestimated. For Brimnes, it’s not just a screwdriver; a cordless drill with torque control is also helpful to tighten the screws carefully.

Additionally, when installing the clamp strips for the back panel, they are often put in upside down. This later causes issues when the back panel doesn’t sit flush.

Another frequent error, especially with drawers, is incorrect installation of the drawer runners. It is important to install them symmetrically; otherwise, the movement of the drawers will be distorted.

In summary, it is advisable to take enough time, study the instructions carefully, and thoroughly inspect each part before assembly. From my experience, this helps avoid many problems.

I would like to add a few practical tips that might help:

- Check everything before assembly: Sort screws and parts according to the instructions. This helps prevent mix-ups.
- Clearly mark the sides: Brimnes furniture parts often have different drill holes on the right and left sides. Mixing these up will require major adjustments later.
- Clamp the drawer slides in place before screwing them firmly and check that the drawer moves freely.
- Align the back panel precisely and check it with a carpenter’s square – even simple models can have slightly warped panels.

Mistakes often happen when instructions are skipped or when working too quickly. I also recommend keeping the documentation and ticking off each step during assembly. This helps reduce common errors. Once you’re familiar with the system, assembly goes much faster and with fewer mistakes.
