Hello everyone,

I am considering using magnetic door dampers for my Kallax shelving unit. My main questions are how well these dampers actually perform, whether they really soften the typical flap movement smoothly, and how they fare in terms of easy installation and durability.

Who among you uses magnetic door dampers for KALLAX regularly and can share their experience on how these dampers hold up in daily use? I am especially interested in aspects such as noise levels, long-term functionality, and any potential issues with precise fitting on the doors.

Thanks for your input!

I think magnetic door dampers are often overrated – especially with KALLAX, you can simply use silicone hinges or slightly adjust the doors.

The doors now close so smoothly, it makes me smile every time

That’s sweet, but I claim that you can achieve the same effect with minimal DIY effort even without magnets. As I see it, the whole damping system is more of a stylish but unnecessary luxury for furniture that isn’t heavily loaded anyway.

I completely agree with Colby42 – it’s just fun to see how a simple KALLAX can be transformed into a bit of high-tech furniture. 🙂

Magnetic door dampers are the icing on the cake for me because they prevent the door from slamming shut. Nobody wants a squeaking or banging shelf unit, right? 🙂

Also, installation is usually straightforward and often takes just a few minutes. So: it’s worth trying out if you enjoy small details.

One tip to finish: When purchasing, make sure the dampers are suitable for wooden or MDF doors. Some magnets are either too weak or too strong.

For KALLAX, standard magnetic door dampers generally work well, but pay close attention to the spacing and exact positioning to ensure consistent performance.

Thanks, that’s a helpful tip.

I will now specifically look for models recommended for MDF and pay attention to user reviews mentioning door sizes typical for KALLAX units.

Are there any additional tips for installation? Do you need special tools or adhesives, or are screws sufficient?

I was thinking of attaching the dampers with screws, as adhesives seem unreliable in the long run, especially if you want to remove the doors occasionally.
