Hello everyone, I recently assembled an IKEA PLATSA system and now I am missing some spare parts for a shelving unit. I wanted to ask: Is it even possible to order spare parts for IKEA PLATSA online without having to go to the store? Specifically, I am interested in individual components like back panels, hinges, or connectors, as one of mine is damaged and I don’t want to buy a whole new unit. I haven’t found much information online so far and would appreciate any concrete tips on where to order such spare parts if possible. Has anyone had experience with IKEA’s spare parts service specifically for PLATSA?

IKEA offers replacement parts for PLATSA, but mostly only in physical stores. There is limited selection available online. It is best to call IKEA or contact customer service, as they can often send individual parts.

Is this really a practical approach in today’s digital world? Especially a large company like IKEA should provide spare parts online to save customers unnecessary trips. The fact that the online availability is limited suggests that the spare parts service for PLATSA is not very customer-friendly.

It should also be considered that repair options and spare parts are more sustainable than buying new products. It would be interesting to know whether IKEA cooperates with regional warehouses or partners to at least offer a straightforward online ordering process. Does anyone have concrete evidence or experience with ordering PLATSA spare parts online?

I fully understand the concerns regarding the availability of replacement parts for PLATSA. In fact, IKEA often offers a replacement parts service, but its availability varies depending on the country and store. For PLATSA, it usually works so that individual parts like back panels, screws, or connectors can be ordered through the regular customer service, although the online selection is often incomplete.

What I recommend is to call IKEA directly and provide the article numbers if you have them. The staff there have access to the replacement parts database and can often help you, even if the parts are not shown in the webshop.

There are also occasionally platforms or third-party sellers offering selected replacement parts, but you should be careful about compatibility. For hinges and similar fittings, this is rather the exception for PLATSA.

Regarding sustainability: It is really important to replace damaged components instead of buying the entire cabinet again. Therefore, it’s worth staying persistent and patient with customer service.

I agree with that. IKEA is built on convenience, but when it comes to spare parts, you’re often left disappointed. Why would anyone focus on repairs when it’s so easy to just buy complete new modules?

It almost feels like spare parts are deliberately hard to get to encourage sales of new furniture. Sustainability aside—the business has to keep running. Of course, IKEA has made some progress, but especially with systems like PLATSA, you still notice the old-fashioned furniture sales model with a rather limited spare parts availability.

Maybe we could gather some ideas here on how to encourage IKEA to be more customer-friendly with spare parts—through collective requests, petitions, or something similar. What do you think?
