Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble an Ikea Pax wardrobe system at home, but the problem is that the floor in my apartment is not fully stable and is somewhat uneven. I am concerned about how to best secure the Pax wardrobe so that it remains stable and does not tip over or come loose even with minor floor movements.

I am specifically interested in methods or fastening options that go beyond the standard Ikea wall attachments. What options are there to securely fix Pax furniture on unstable or uneven floors?

Are there special anchors, extra brackets, or other measures you would recommend?

It is important to me that everything is securely in place, especially since there are children nearby who might walk past or possibly lean on it.

I look forward to your experience and tips on the best ways to secure Pax furniture in such situations and which tools or materials are ideal for this.

Hello Kunuda, I completely understand your concern, as a stable base is really important for large furniture like the Ikea Pax, especially if the floor is uneven or somewhat unstable.

Basically, I always recommend supporting the wardrobe not only at the back panel but also at the floor, for example by adding extra screws into the floor or using a sturdy base panel under the carcass. If the floor is uneven, you can use small shims or special furniture pads made of rubber or felt to compensate for the unevenness and reduce wobbling.

Additionally, brackets for wall mounting are generally mandatory with Ikea Pax, but on unstable floors, I would also recommend so-called “clamp holders” or floor anchors that secure the unit from below, if your floor allows for this.

If you want to use anchors, pay attention to the type of your wall and floor material. For concrete floors, many people use metal expansion anchors, while for wooden floorboards, wood screws with long threads are more suitable.

It is also important to assess the load correctly: if children are involved who might hold onto or climb on the furniture, multiple mounting points are essential. I hope this gives you a good overview already. If you like, I can also share tips on tools or a step-by-step installation guide.

Hello Kunuda, I’d like to add to what Deandre wrote and give you a brief guide on how to secure furniture properly on uneven or unstable floors.

- First, carefully check the floor type: Is it wood planks, concrete, or tiles? The choice of anchors and screws depends on this.
- If there are uneven spots, use small washers or furniture shims until the cabinet stands level. Make sure the cabinet is completely stable and does not wobble.
- Wall mounting is mandatory. Ikea provides brackets and screws for this, so be sure to use them with appropriate wall anchors.
- For extra stability at the base, you can install floor brackets, which are attached inside the cabinet and screwed into the floor.
- Be careful not to screw into ventilation slots or other important components.
- If you are concerned about stability, you can reinforce the cabinet’s back panel with additional sturdy material or place a thin wooden board under the cabinet on the floor.

Common mistakes include using only wall brackets and ignoring the floor, which can still allow the cabinet to tip if the floor is loose. Using inappropriate fastening materials can also reduce safety.

If you have specific questions about anchors or tools, I can help with those as well—just let me know.

You can use floor brackets to secure the cabinet to the floor in addition to the wall brackets.

Always use wall brackets with appropriate anchors for your wall type; otherwise, they won’t hold.

This is the best way to compensate for unevenness and ensure the furniture is stable.

In short: wall brackets + floor brackets + leveling materials for uneven floors—that’s how you secure the Pax cabinet safely.
