Hello everyone, I recently bought the IKEA Brimnes furniture and am having some difficulties with the assembly instructions. Specifically, I find the manual somewhat confusing, with certain steps not clearly explained and the illustrations appearing incomplete. The most challenging parts for me are assembling the drawers and properly aligning the back panel, where some drill holes seem to be incorrectly indicated. My question to the community is: What is the best way to overcome issues with the IKEA BRIMNES assembly instructions? What strategies, tips, or tricks can you recommend to ensure a smooth assembly despite unclear guidance? I look forward to your experiences and suggestions.

You’ve definitely picked a classic flat-pack furniture challenge! 😄 My advice: take plenty of time and double-check all the parts before each step, even if the instructions don’t specifically say so. With the drawers, it often helps to leave the screws loose at first and only tighten them fully at the end—this way, you can still make adjustments if something doesn’t fit perfectly. As for the back panel, I found it best to screw it in loosely at first, then realign the main frame, and only tighten everything firmly at the very end. It sounds simple but saves a lot of frustration!

First tip: Always sort the parts and compare them carefully. Second: Do not tighten the screws immediately. Third: Follow the instructions step by step without skipping.

It is well known that IKEA instructions are often minimalist, which can be challenging for users with less experience. For BRIMNES, I recommend the following approach: Before starting, check that all components are complete according to the parts list. Use a screwdriver with an adjustable head shape to minimize the risk of damage caused by incorrect tool use. When installing the back panel, ensure that the drill holes are properly aligned by placing the carcass on a flat surface. Initially, screw in the back panel temporarily with less than full force to allow for adjustments in positioning. This helps prevent later warping of the structure. Document any problematic assembly points in writing or with sketches to seek targeted solutions in the forum or from customer service.

I can understand how frustrating it can be when a manual doesn’t provide enough help. What helped me was taking short breaks during assembly to avoid rushing. Especially if you get stuck at the back wall, I recommend staying patient and maybe asking someone else to take a second look from the outside—sometimes another person spots the mistake faster. If possible, you can also try checking the parts in reverse order; this often helped me gain new insight with more complex steps. You’re not alone with your problem, just keep at it!

Exactly! And I’d like to add: take two or three deep breaths from time to time and imagine you’re a furniture screw whisperer – do you understand the screws better if you’re patient? 😄 A bit of humor helps to stay sane. Also, if you feel a drill hole doesn’t fit, don’t force it; calmly check whether you have the correct part oriented properly.
