Hello everyone, some time ago I planned and installed a kitchen using the IKEA Metod system. Now I am looking for compatible spare parts from other manufacturers – specifically hinges, plinths (kickboards), and some shelves. My question is: Are there any reliable manufacturers outside of IKEA that offer compatible spare parts for the Metod system with comparable quality and fit? For me, it is especially important not to compromise on functionality, but I would like to potentially save costs or have parts available more quickly. Does anyone have experience or recommendations on which manufacturers I can trust?

Hello, some replacement parts from Hettich fit Metod very well, such as hinges and drawer slides. However, pay close attention to the exact dimensions, as some parts differ slightly.

Hello gotthold, your topic is very interesting. In fact, replacement parts for the Metod system are often custom-made, so compatibility is not always guaranteed. Manufacturers like Hettich or Blum offer high-quality hinges and fittings that can be technically compatible; however, you should check exact dimensions and screw hole spacing. With shelves and plinths, it is more difficult because the connections in Metod have specific measurements. It is worth comparing the product specifications from IKEA with those of the manufacturers. Sometimes universal shelves fit, but plinths tend to be more proprietary.

I think it’s great that you’re looking for alternatives here! 😊 For hinges, I’ve had good experiences with Blum – very sturdy and almost always compatible with IKEA Metod. However, for panels and shelves, I would prefer to stick with IKEA since they know exactly which dimensions matter. I once tried base cabinets from a hardware store, but that mostly didn’t work out, unfortunately. So, for furniture fittings, Blum or Hettich are a safe bet; for everything else, better to go with the original!

In my experience, Blum hinges are generally a good choice as replacements. Rails and other fittings usually work without any issues. Please be cautious with other parts like carcass or plinth materials, as IKEA often uses their own dimensions here.

In short: Blum or Hettich parts often fit for hinges and sliding rails. For other replacement parts, precise measurements are necessary. Unfortunately, the Metod system is not universally compatible.
