ᐅ Are there IKEA PLATSA furniture units available with soft-close doors and drawers?

Theo35Hello everyone,
I am planning to get an IKEA Platsa furniture piece and came across the question of whether this series offers doors and drawers with a soft-close function.
I already have several IKEA furniture items where soft-close is very helpful, especially to avoid noise and extend the furniture’s lifespan. Since PLATSA is modular and relatively new, I’m wondering: Does IKEA officially offer soft-close doors and drawers for PLATSA, or are there only standard hinges?
Perhaps someone has practical experience with whether soft-close elements can be retrofitted separately or if IKEA has official solutions available in their range?
I would appreciate any advice, tips, or links to suitable accessories or alternatives, as I value quality and comfort and would prefer not to tinker if official components exist.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

- The doors usually come with regular hinges, but you can buy soft-close hinges as accessories and retrofit them.
- For the drawers, IKEA offers dampers that prevent slamming and create a soft-close effect.
A quick tip: Installing the soft-close components isn’t entirely straightforward, so it’s a good idea to carefully study IKEA’s installation instructions or watch a YouTube video before you start.
I’ve personally fitted two PLATSA cabinets with soft-close doors, and it definitely adds value, especially when the doors are a bit heavy.
Good luck, and if you have any questions about the installation, feel free to ask! 😉

to answer your question in detail: IKEA has not yet included the soft-close function as a standard feature for doors and drawers in the PLATSA range.
Important to know:
- The PLATSA series normally uses simple hinges for doors, which you can replace with soft-close hinges from third-party suppliers. IKEA itself sells only a few soft-close components for PLATSA.
- For drawers, PLATSA uses an overlay system with metal runners that do not come with a soft-close mechanism as standard.
What this means for you:
- If you want soft-close, I recommend replacing the hinges with suitable Blum soft-close hinges or similar brand products that are compatible. It is important to pay attention to the exact hinge dimensions.
- For drawers, there are soft-close runners that you can purchase separately. However, these must be compatible with the PLATSA system, which varies depending on drawer depth and construction type.
If you are handy, you can significantly upgrade your PLATSA system with these components. However, if you prefer official IKEA parts, PLATSA currently requires retrofit solutions.
I’m curious if you already have a specific model in mind? How large should the doors and drawers be? That way, we can discuss compatible soft-close solutions more precisely.

- Doors: For PLATSA, IKEA supplies standard metal hinges without damping. Soft-close hinges are not currently available directly from IKEA for PLATSA, but you can retrofit hinges, for example from Blum or Hettich – these brands are standard and offer high-quality soft-close versions.
- Drawers: PLATSA drawers usually come with basic runners. Soft-close drawer slides with built-in damping exist, but IKEA does not offer these for PLATSA. Retrofitting is possible if you choose the right model and plan accordingly.
Here is a brief approach if you want soft-close:
- Check the dimensions of your open doors and drawers.
- Research compatible hinges and drawer slides at specialist retailers.
- Follow the provided installation instructions carefully, as soft-close mechanisms are sensitive and must be correctly adjusted.
My advice: If you want to stay flexible with PLATSA, buy the soft-close components separately and install them yourself. In my experience, the effort is worth it – everything feels more premium and closes more smoothly.
If you need help with this, just ask!
