Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe in my bedroom. The problem is that my floor is uneven. The irregularities amount to almost 2 cm (0.8 inches) at the lowest point, which worries me regarding the stability and appearance of the wardrobe. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to best adjust the installation of the Brimnes for sloped or uneven floors? Are there any special tricks to align the wardrobe securely and prevent damage later on? I would appreciate specific advice and also experiences with similar situations.

Hello FU_BLA!

I’m very familiar with uneven floors – my living room floor isn’t exactly suitable for a flat-screen TV cabinet either 😄. First and foremost: don’t get discouraged! There are a few tricks for the Ikea Brimnes:

- Use wedge-shaped spacers made of wood or plastic under the cabinet feet to level the lower side. Often, small wooden wedges from a hardware store are enough.
- Check stability by gently rocking and pushing the cabinet. If it wobbles, try using felt pads or rubber pads that also protect the floor.
- Be especially careful when screwing in the parts—don’t make the drill holes too large, or the cabinet may lose stability later.

The cabinet is sturdy as long as you apply these leveling measures. With a good spirit level app on your smartphone, you can check quickly and easily. Good luck, and let us know how it goes! 😉

Hello FU_BLA,

For the Ikea Brimnes on sloped floors, I recommend the following approach:

- First, carefully measure the slope to determine the height of the leveling feet needed.
- Get adjustable furniture legs designed specifically for uneven floors. These can be attached in addition to the original feet or mounted underneath them.
- Alternatively, you can use wooden or plastic wedges under the legs. It’s important that the wedges are securely fixed and do not slip.
- During assembly, use a spirit level to check whether the cabinet is standing straight. For Brimnes, it is also advisable to firmly screw the back panel in place to ensure stability on uneven floors.
- Additional wall fixings are recommended, especially on strongly sloped floors, as they reliably prevent tipping.

In summary: measure, level with feet or wedges, check with a spirit level, firmly screw together, and always secure to the wall. This greatly reduces the risks.

Shim under and screw in place with the original furniture feet. Do not forget the wall anchors.

The problem: Unfortunately, my floor is sloped.

This is often a challenge, but nothing to worry about. I would recommend starting with an accurate measurement of the slope, either using a spirit level or a digital inclinometer. After that, you can:

- Use furniture shims made of wood or plastic, placing them firmly under the cabinet feet to compensate for height differences.
- Purchase adjustable furniture feet – these are common in the furniture industry for uneven floors.

Additional wall fastenings are advisable

This is very important because the Brimnes wardrobe can easily tip over when set up on a sloped floor due to its design. The supplied wall fastenings should definitely be used and preferably anchored into a load-bearing stud or solid wall.

Optional: If the floor is very uneven, you can also use a thin, large board (e.g., plywood) as a base. Level it properly and place the wardrobe on top. This ensures an even support surface.

I hope this helps!
