ᐅ How can I make IKEA BESTA furniture ergonomic for use in an office setting?

kimi70Hello everyone,
I am planning to use the IKEA BESTÅ system as a storage solution in my home office, but I want to make it as ergonomic as possible. My work surface should be flexible and adapted to both my sitting and standing positions. I’m wondering how BESTÅ components can be combined effectively so that the shelves are neither too low nor too high, in order to avoid back and neck problems.
Are there any tips on how to supplement the shelves with suitable worktops or accessories? What dimensions should employees or self-employed people ideally consider when using BESTÅ for their desk or storage space? I am mainly looking for practical solutions that are easy to implement without major furniture modifications.
I look forward to your experiences and recommendations on setting up an ergonomic workspace with IKEA BESTÅ!

You can arrange the modules as storage next to or under the work surface so that everything is within easy reach without having to stretch.

The BESTÅ units can be easily combined with height-adjustable table legs to set the optimal working height. I also recommend designing the upper shelf so that frequently used items remain within easy reach without stretching.
Ensure there is enough legroom and, if necessary, use ergonomic wrist rests or keyboard and mouse trays to reduce strain on the wrists.

With IKEA BESTÅ, you can really get creative. :-) For example, you can stack different components or use individual modules to make your workspace more dynamic.
And don’t forget: sometimes small changes make all the difference. Consider a height-adjustable chair, good lighting, or ergonomic accessories. That makes working much more enjoyable!

What dimensions should employees or self-employed people ideally consider in the office when using BESTÅ for their desk or storage?I can answer that with a bit of flexibility: The general rule for desk work is about 70 to 80 cm (28 to 31 inches) desk height.
With BESTÅ, it’s flexible because you have different module sizes that you can combine as you like—kind of like Lego for adults! 😄
Pro tip: Use casters for the bases so you can rearrange your workspace quickly and without much effort. Ergonomics means not straining yourself but being able to move easily.
