I am facing the challenge of mounting an IKEA Metod cabinet in my apartment but don’t have any wall anchors available. Most of my walls are concrete, and I would like to know: Are there safe and reliable methods to install Metod cabinets without using wall anchors?
I am especially interested in alternatives that do not compromise stability or safety, as these are relatively heavy kitchen units. Perhaps you have tips on special adhesive systems, screwing techniques, or other fasteners that might be suitable for this purpose.

I understand your problem; sometimes you simply don’t have wall plugs on hand, or the walls make the standard method difficult. Generally speaking, Metod shelves are designed to be securely mounted to the wall using wall plugs because they need to support a considerable amount of weight.
However, if you don’t want or can’t use wall plugs, you might consider strong adhesive solutions as an alternative, such as special mounting adhesives or heavy-duty double-sided tapes made for construction purposes. Important: the adhesive strength must be really high; otherwise, the shelf could fall.
For a less firm mounting, some people also try using heavy-duty screws directly into the wall if the drill holes are tight enough – but this doesn’t really replace wall plugs; it’s a different fastening method.
Best to keep a good spirit: “Don’t worry, we’ll get the shelf on the wall even without wall plugs!” 🙂

- Heavy-duty screws that can be screwed directly into the wall if it is made of wood or a similar material.
- Construction adhesive or special mounting glue that bonds the wall and shelf together.
3. Please note:
- Construction adhesive does not replace mechanical fastening for load-bearing shelves!
- Securing shelves without anchors on concrete walls is very risky because screws have little grip.
4. Recommendation:
- If anchors are not an option, consider building a freestanding version of the shelf, for example, with legs or side panels that provide stability without wall fixing.

The shelf really needs to be mounted on a concrete wall, which is very solid. Are there screws that provide good hold without additional anchors? I was thinking about so-called “impact anchors” but have no experience if they are suitable for IKEA furniture.
