willWohnen11 Apr 2015 20:12Hello dear forum community,
Our house construction has been slow-going, but finally we’re approaching the final stretch. 🙄
Within the next two months at the latest, we need to have the outdoor split evaporator unit installed for our Ochsner air-to-water heat pump.
Now we have two options: either place it in the (quite large) front yard or in our west garden (likely a vegetable garden), which would probably be visible from the small kitchen terrace.
This raises the question of how we could camouflage or conceal it in the front yard, and how unsightly it actually is. 😀
Who should suffer, the guests and passersby or us?? 😉
That’s why I’m asking here among those who have already completed their house build and are already working on landscaping and the garden.
Could you please share photos of your outdoor units here in this thread?
It would really help me to see these units in their actual spot, maybe even with some greenery or garden surroundings.
I know uploading photos takes a bit of effort, so thanks a thousand times in advance!

Our Alpha Innotec outdoor unit is located behind the garage.

willWohnen11 Apr 2015 22:25@Masipularmi Thanks!!! Behind the garage it’s already hidden from passersby. And from inside the house you can’t see it, which is great. Your terrace will also be at the back later on? Will you perhaps plant a bush or something next to the unit later?
I don’t know what regulations apply to your device. It looks smaller than ours. Our rotor will be horizontal, and the unit is raised on legs and needs to be able to draw air from underneath.

willWohnen11 Apr 2015 22:29@Bolzen The device should only have one wall nearby, and it must be at least 1 m (3.3 feet) away. It draws air in from around itself and needs to be able to blow the cooled air out at the top, which isn’t possible in a garage. The device would suck in the self-cooled air again, and then, well, you’d have a freezer-like garage instead of a warm house. ;-)
@willWohnen:
In our case, the cold air is blown out at the vents you can see in the photo. On the opposite side, it’s “sucked in.”
Yes, our terrace will go there too. It will be 11 by 5 meters (36 by 16 feet) in size. The table and so on will be placed a bit further to the right. We have plenty of space. I have to say, though, that this unit is really quite quiet, and you could definitely sit closer to it.
But it doesn’t really matter during the time you’re outside anyway, since it hardly runs then, and in winter you’re not sitting comfortably on the terrace anyway. 😉
We chose this location because it can’t be seen from the street or from inside the house.
Edit:
Yes, there will be some greenery added in that corner later on. We’ll see...
