Hello, I need to use this great forum again to learn!

In our new build (house with a granny flat / built in 2021), we had a groundwater heat pump from alpha innotec installed (6 boreholes in the garden).

We are generally satisfied, but after about 1.5 years of use, we are wondering if the heat pump is really good, since we "feel" that the electricity consumption is quite high.

First of all: On the data label on the heating unit, it says Qh / COP --- 5.06 kW / 4.87.
That sounds good at first, but if I understand correctly, those values don’t represent everyday performance, right?
So they don’t really say much, do they?

Now about consumption: Unfortunately, we don’t have a separate electricity meter for the heating system. It’s connected to the main electricity meter. So heating/hot water plus other electricity use (including that of our tenant) are all combined here and totaled 9500 kWh for the whole year 2022 (for 3 people, all working from home).

Now the probably unanswerable question: Can we be satisfied with this? Or should an energy consultant come and take another look?

Thanks and best regards
Daniel

Hello,
Without separate electricity and heat meters, it’s only possible to guess...
A few details about the house and the heating system (model of the heat pump, hydraulic setup, operating data) would also be necessary.
Best regards

This question cannot be answered definitively. It depends on factors such as living area, energy efficiency standards, water consumption, typical electricity usage, and more. For a building constructed in 2021, there is likely still some moisture remaining from construction. The tenant probably won’t be very careful with electricity usage unless they are charged separately for it. Heating settings could be a factor, but they are not necessarily the only or the main cause.

Shouldn't this heater also display the consumption it has measured itself? I think there is a statistics option in the menu that shows this.

Maybe look through the menu or read the manual, or have you already checked the heater and found that there is nothing there?

Without more detailed information, no statement can be made (house, number of occupants, location, etc.).
But with friends who have a heat pump (at 700-800 m (2300-2600 ft) above sea level), the heating including other electricity consumption is rather around 12,000 kWh.
So, at first glance, I would consider that quite realistic…

Which naturally raises the question of what house size Rick’s friends live in.

However, these figures can differ quite a bit. According to the heat pump, we used 83 kWh of electricity, but the meter shows more than double that. The heating system briefing is still pending, so it could be that the measurement, for example, doesn’t include hot water. Most likely, the electricity for the circulation pump is also missing. I need to clarify this with the installer during the briefing. In any case, I wouldn’t rely solely on the heat pump’s display.
