Hello everyone,

We want to paint our apartment and are a bit uncertain about the paint brands. For latex paint (kitchen area / parts of the bathrooms), Brillux was recommended to us, but the painter generally recommends Diessner (which I have never heard of before).

Can anyone share their experience with these two brands and the quality of their paints, especially the latex paints?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

next question about paint colors 😉

You are absolutely right that the brand of latex paint is quite important, especially for areas like the kitchen or bathroom that experience more wear and tear. Diessner is actually not very well known in the private sector, as the brand is more focused on tradespeople and commercial customers. However, in the professional sector, Diessner has a very solid reputation for application, coverage, and durability – it is hardly inferior to Brillux, and in terms of price/performance, it might even be better. Brillux is just much more prominent and therefore more frequently talked about.

One thing I’m still curious about: How intense will the usage be? Do you have an open-plan kitchen, or is there a high "splash area" directly by the stove or sink? Depending on the level of use, it might make sense to add a proper splash guard made of glass or tiles in addition to the latex paint – even the best latex paint will eventually show marks, and with regular exposure to steam, there will always be wear over time.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

The cooktop is about 60cm (24 inches) away from the wall. There is frosted glass behind the sink, so no problem there.

Otherwise, the latex paint is intended to be used above the shower head (which is also not very critical), next to a toilet, and next to a washbasin in the bathroom (about 10cm (4 inches) distance from the basin and 40cm (16 inches) from the faucet).

It is an open kitchen with a peninsula where the cooktop is located. I hope this helps for now 🙂

Is the Diessner latex paint as good as the Brillux one?

Best regards

In that case, I wouldn’t worry about using latex paint at all. A nice glass splashback behind the cooktop and otherwise “regular” paint would do.

Other than that: Both manufacturers provide paint of equal quality that performs as expected.

Both brands are premium and have different product lines in the latex paint range; both are highly recommended without restrictions.

Just a thought:
I don’t believe latex is necessary for your application. In my opinion, the most beautiful colors and the richest pigmentation are offered by Farrow & Ball. They are considerably more expensive, but given the relatively small areas involved, it might be worth the "splurge." In some locations, there are stores with many samples that you can see and touch—such as in Cologne.
