Hello everyone,
Before our move, we sold all our corded garden tools and now want to get battery-powered garden tools for the new house.
Initially, I need a battery grass trimmer. In the future, hedge trimmers and shrub shears will follow, and possibly a manual lawn mower as well. And whatever else one gradually needs.
I’ve noticed there is an 18V system from Bosch. Since I already have a Bosch Uneo, I would have a battery for that. But the grass trimmer costs almost twice as much as the equivalent from Einhell. I’m not very familiar with that brand. I once had a mower from them, which was okay. And a corded tiller, which was also okay.
My sister said that there are systems from well-known manufacturers that are partly compatible with discount-brand tools. Is that true?
There is also such a system with interchangeable batteries from Gardena. (?)
Who among you has experience with these brands and uses multiple tools that share the same batteries? Can you recommend anything, are you satisfied?
Of course, I want to get everything (gradually) from one manufacturer and not have three different battery systems.

I also go with Makita. They offer almost all tools and I find the price/performance ratio good.+1
We have all our tools and garden equipment from Makita and I'm satisfied with everything. One 6Ah, two 5Ah, two 1.5Ah batteries, and a total of three charging stations... I've never run out of power with this setup.
The idea behind unified battery systems is good. In the CAS (Cordless Alliance System), for example, Metabo collaborates with many manufacturers of specialty tools. It is likely similar with other systems as well. There is usually one "major" brand with many tools, plus several smaller brands offering specialized tools. Unfortunately, this was not a solution for me, as Metabo exceeds my DIY budget.

Ultimately, it’s unlikely that multiple major manufacturers will join such a system. The synergy effect with existing equipment is simply a good sales aid.
Has anyone had experience with multiple brands and can comment on quality differences?
Einhell seems to be about half the price of Bosch and others.
Makita is now more expensive than Bosch. Stihl definitely seems too expensive for me.
I already have one Bosch battery (but only exactly one). Yet the Bosch trimmer costs me almost as much as the Einhell model WITH battery.
Is Bosch significantly better quality than Einhell?
My gut feeling leans toward Bosch, but I can’t really justify it.

As I mentioned before, I am not impressed with Bosch garden tools (unlike their regular power tools). I own a Bosch grass trimmer and a cordless lawn mower. I once had an Einhell electric scarifier, which was a complete failure.
My most recent purchases of Metabo garden tools were:
SGS 18 LTX grass shear/mini hedge trimmer including a free battery for €48.94
SGS 18 LTX Q telescopic pole for the grass shear for €39.60
MS 36-18 LTX BL-40 cordless chainsaw including one free battery for €209.03
FSB 36-18 LTX BL 40 brushcutter with blade and line module including one free battery for €204.30
All these devices are a world apart from my experiences with Bosch, and I can use the same battery for each of them, while the Bosch lawn mower has its own 36V battery, and both of my Bosch batteries have become quite weak by now.
Which garden tools specifically are you considering? For a lawn mower, for example, I would focus less on the battery system and more on the specifications and your requirements.
